AMEN midis and sheet music for Beginners
« on: November 24, 2007, 11:13:48 PM »
This is my first self-initiated post.  I was thrilled to see this forum started but I have been too “shy” to post.  Since I would like to see more activity in this forum here I am.

It has been years since I took piano lessons.  I will begin taking lessons again in December. Although there is a lot of great information on the Internet, in-person lessons can be of great help … especially for developing technique.  Speaking from self-experience I will save that story for another post.

I hope to bless children and early beginners to play.

Many thanks to Ferrente for chording so many songs.  Did you know that chording is a form of sheet music?

Let’s learn to play AMEN in the key of C.
Here’s the link to Ferrente’s chords to AMEN.
http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,47422.0.html

Tips:
For the key you’re playing know the notes of the scale. Practice the basic chords in all inversions up and down the keyboard. Practice hands alone. Practice hands together. If you need a scale/chord formation refresher, here’s the link to T-Block’s post on scales.

I created EASY PLAY sheet music for some of the midis below.  The EASY PLAY note head includes a note name inside the head of the note.  Use the vanBasco Player to see the notes on its player piano.  I recorded right hand and left hand on separate tracks so that you can see what each hand is doing.

To play AMEN as chorded by Ferrente, start by playing the melody note. I created a lead sheet for AMEN.

Here’s the link for the lead sheet with Easy Play notes http://www.learngospelmusic.com/media/displayimage.php?album=407&pos=7

Here’s the link for lead sheet using number system http://www.learngospelmusic.com/media/displayimage.php?album=407&pos=8

Here’s the melody line midi.

Easy Play sheet music for the midi:  http://www.learngospelmusic.com/media/displayimage.php?album=407&pos=5

Here’s a beginner’s level 1 midi.  (I reduced the number of chord changes)

Here’s the Easy Play sheet music for level 1 beginners:

Listen to AMEN played by various musicians.  Try to imitate some of these.
There are several versions of AMEN at http://www.godsgospel.com

Make up your versions of AMEN by combining sounds from other musicians with what you already know.

Here are some variations using the basic chords that Ferrente gave us.  For each refrain I varied one hand at a time to make it easier for you to follow the changes.

AMEN variations sheet music:

(The sheet music looks scary; use the vanBasco player.   I posted the sheet music for those who read sheet music.)

With a little help and lots of practice I believe that most beginners will eventually be able to play the variations.  Beginners, let me know which parts you’re having problems with and I will help you through the tough parts.

Once you can play the basic Amen in the key of C, transpose and play AMEN in other keys.  Play the melody line first; refer to the lead sheet if you need help to figure out the chords.

I am going to start practicing A-men this week.  I will keep you posted on my progress.

Thanks again for the hard work that you put into this post.

I am working on a couple of basic traditional songs that I can play and have the sheet music.  I will try to post them later this week.
