I haven't heard any in person, but there are quite a few people that swear by them.  Look at CARLISLE - he owns a whole set of Saluda Cymbals.

Rich, I would suggest to contact Saluda and ask for Jamie.  Describe a sound and he'll create a cymbal with the sound that you're looking for.  If it isn't right, send it back and he'll get it right for ya.
u guys gotta check these cymbals out just one to see how they hold up with yo top line. im willing to bet u will trade yo whole set in 4 them. key word custom
You can make it happen; whatever you want

That's why I play Sabians(And they're not bargains either).

Well, add Sabian, Ltd. to the price increase list: "NEWS FLASH! - Sabian has announced a 10% price increase for Jan 2008... If you're on the fence, grab them now, before the increase."

Ufip is nice - in fact, Gerald Heyward used to be endorsed by Ufip before Zildjian.  I've heard a number of them, and I like them.

This is a spinoff from the "10% increase" thread.

Note: Some of these brands may not be necessarily cheaper, just because they are not in the "Big three (Zildjian, Sabian and Paiste)".  In fact, some may be slightly more expensive.  The main objective here is to create a repository in which you can draw upon to broaden your knowledge of the various cymbal companies.  Listen to your ears, and don't worry about the pretty little ink logos on the cymbal. Your cymbal palette could be missing out on some great stuff.

If there are more, please feel free to add.

Additionally, Meinl has a really cool comparison in sonic texture with their various alloys.  You can actually hear the difference.  To change the alloys, just click on the different types.  Here is the link:

Another angle to my statement (so that we're on the same page, cuz I was on your page) Bentley=high price; Paiste="Bentley of cymbals".  The pricing for Zildjian is nowhere close to the price of Paiste (Signature, New Signature, Traditional, RUDE, etc.). What does Zildjian need to step up with to justify the price increase?  They're going to do the same thing that they've always been doing for some time now: nothing

Trust me; I know what you were referring to.  That's why I made that reply.  "This j_kay, dawg."   ;D

You ain't never lied J. Paiste's here are luxury to have. Even Meinl's.

Could this be merged into the stickied section (if it's not there, and if you feel that it would benefit the forum)?

Man I have got to try those things out. I have heard a couple of the Octagon Cymbals though. The Octagons in Eric Moore's clip sound nice too! The "Big 3" is doing this because they know that people are still going to buy their products no matter what the price is. This isnt going to last long, people are going to get tired of buying over priced cymbals only for them to break in 6 Months.  >:( LDNDRUMMER plays Dream Cymbals, Dream Cymbals won an Award in the Summer Issue of Drummer Mag. I dont know what month issue it is I have to find it. ;)

That's what's up! I've had a few Saluda Cymbals since about Feb. of 2007 and they sound incredible. MistX's are great for the crashes and I love the Earthworks Ride. If you are going to get them make sure you get a MistX 17" or above "vented" for that trashy sound to add to your collection. You'll love it!

That's exactly why Zildjian is increasing prices.  They're probably getting killed by these new jacks in the game.  It's also a test of loyalty to those that think Zildjian is the only cymbal to have.  That's why I play Sabians(And they're not bargains either).  And they have been good to me over the years.  I haven't had to replace a cymbal yet.  But if I ever have to make a change, I may try a new brand out.
Go custom Bro. Just do it man, you won't be sorry. I was a Zildjian loyalist, until I put my 20" custom dry Turk up against the 20" dry K custom. My Turk killed it. Every since that day, I was a believer in custom brands. Turks are basically just like Zildjian (B-20 metal) but the process takes way more time in making your cymbals.
See, you gots to understand that the BIG BOYS do not need you or care about you, PERIOD. You will not get an endoressment deal from Zildjian or any Big company, unless you are some phenom at the age 3yrs old. So why not help to built up a smaller company to become like a Zildjian or Paite. It's all in what you want to achieve in your drum career or hobby.

Octagon Cymbals are ok, and just that ,OK. First off, there made out of B-8 metal, not B-20. If you like a trashy sound, then Octagon is cool. If you hit cymbal kinda hard, you'll break them. They are very thin and they bend really easy. They aren't on Turkmasters level, but they sound ok. Not great. I played Eric's Octagons and my homeboy Will Bates out here in my neighborhood, so take my word on em'. Octagons are just OK IMHO and Professional opinion ;)
