.....one thing about me that you will notice is that i dont play around when i am ging advice or teaching!.....these books are not for beginners or advanced musicians...they are for people who love the challenge!....if you want to learn guitar an inch at a time.....you wont need these books!....but if you can play a couple of chords and are interested in someday making people ..and yourself go WOW....then the are got to work with!....forget about what he has to say in the book!....just get it for the chord diagrams and names!.....
In chord chemitry he gives you a chord name!...then 50 bazillion ways to play it!...FOR REAL...not standaerd stuff!.....
then in modern chord progressions...he shows you how to use the stuff!...(if you had to only get one...get modern chord progressions!)

so ..."are they for begginers?"....if i am you teacher...everything is for beginners.......thats how you get really good....really fast.....NO PAIN...NO GAIN!.....www.uriahsmusic.com!  my web site is not really for begginers...but the way i teach hard stuff makes it easy for everyone!!!!

....whatever you do...do not let these books scare you....i know what i am doing by telling you to get them....he will give you theory...but if it goes over your head...so what!....deal with the pictures!....the way he does stuff will...will give you the answers to the questions you will have 5 years from now....so start now!....find a set of diagrams that look intreaging to you...then deal with them....you will thank me for sending you....and him for making these books!....
chord chemitstry gives you all of these magnificent ways of playing the same chord!....modern chord progressions gives you the chords in action....all of these sounds that you hear out there but would have never put it that way!

....you  must not approach these books as something to absorb!!!!!....look at the content of these books as a way to think.....try something that looks interesting to you....next time you play a set of chords that he played a different way...try it his way....what will happen over time....is people will say to you ...."how did you do that?".....and you will say.....check this book out......

I just wanted to co-sign on the Chord Chemistry book.  Its like a holy grail, or a owner's manual to chord voicings.  It will definitely break you out of "abc" barre chords, and will allow you to play almost any chord in one or two position on the neck, instead of jumping all over to get the fingering that you first learned many sheddings ago...oh, he talks about voice leadings, and some chord progressions also.  Some of the voicings you may need like seven or eight fingers to play, but the point is to know the neck and know your possibilites.  It's a very necessary book, for the 'serious' musician.  :)
I'm looking forward to getting Modern Chord Progressions.

It will give you literally 100s of ways to play one progression.

Hey Uriah, after reading this post I ordered both of those books last night from Amazon. Hope that it will enlighten and help, as one can never learn to much.  ;D
Also just to add this in, not sure if anybody here has already checked this out, but one book that I bought sometime back (years) that really helped me out on a few things is  Fretboard Roadmaps by Fred Sokolow, True, allot in there I already knew, but it did help with chord formations in different positions. So you guys may want to check it out, defiantly worth the buy! ;D

Here is a video clip of Ted Greene (auther of books Chord Chemistry and Modern Chord Progression).  He is playing "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas".

The first part of the video is small talk and some guitar shifting, but once he gets going, you'll see why many love him.
