Homegoing Songs/ Funeral Songs
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:33:56 AM »
I know we go through alot of repeated threads about songs for different occassions, but if these could pinned in the forum where this would be appropriate (I don't know where that will be but the mods could help us out on that) for these. That way it'll be there for people to refer to, ask for addiditional suggestions, or whatever instead of adding a new thread since these topics are always popping up ever so often... it'll will be appreciated  ;D

Let's start it off again...

What are songs that deal w/ heaven, homegoings, celebration of life...any gospel/inspirational song that fits along that theme that's appropriate for a funeral/homegoing? Here's a few I can think of, what are others?

(Note: please try to keep it related to the theme provided, while I know family members may requests songs, or choirs want to sing something fast, or whatever the case, keep in mind we're trying to compile a list specific with this particular theme.)

Here's some slow ones, I think deal w/ the subject mater:

* Angels (Dottie Peoples)

* Anticipation (Florida Mass Choir/GMWA Mass Choir)

* Fly Away (Donald Vails)

* Forever With Me (Yolanda Adams)

* Gone But Not Forgotten (Percy Bady)

* He's Prepared A Place For Me (Gabriel Hardeman)

* Homegoing (Rev. Clay Evans)

* If You Could See Me Now (Bishop Paul Morton)

* I'll Fly Away (hymn)

* I'll Fly Away (Keith Pringle & The Pentecostal Community Choir)

* I'll Fly Away (Ohio Baptist General Convention Mass Choir)

* I'll See You Again (Richard Smallwood)

* I'm Going Up (Bishop Larry Trotter)

* No Tears In Glory (Rev. F.C. Barnes)

* Sounds Like Heaven (Rev. James Moore)

* That Wonderful Place (Eric McDaniel)

* Walk Around Heaven (Cassietta George/Beau Williams)

* When I Get Home (Tony McGill & The Southern California Holy Gospel Feast)

* When I Get There (New Direction)

* When I See Jesus (Amen) (Douglas Miller & also Eric McDaniel)

* When We All Get Together (Ruby Terry)

* When We Get Over There (Hezekiah Walker & LFCC)

* When We See Jesus (Keith Pringle)

* Will The Circle Be Unbroken (hymn)

If you want songs that are joyful (music wise)

* Going Where Jesus Is (Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson & The Spiritual
Voices)

* Goin' To A Place (Walter Hawkins)

* I Will Be With Him (GMWA Mass Choir)

* Just As Soon (I'll Be Shouting) (Beverly Crawford)

* Just As Soon As I Get There (Chicago Mass Choir)

add Paul Morton "Your Tears"
we've also done things like:
Total Praise
The Name of Jesus
Perfect Praise (Oh Lord of how excellent)
Let's just praise the Lord
I love to praise Him (I love to praise His name)
If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be!!!

True choirs, people sing other songs, but the purpose of this thread is to compile songs that deal w/ heaven, homegoings, celebration of life...any gospel/inspirational song that fits along that theme that's appropriate for a funeral/homegoing.   ;)

That I understand, sometimes families don't like to have songs that have to do with heaven and homegoing in them, because it accents (so to speak) the death of their loved one, but prefer songs of praise which is why I added those.  ;)

And that I understand which is why I stated at the beginning of thread:

So this may sound like I'm repeating myself again.. I do understand family members may have their own personal requests for songs that have nothing to do w/ homegoings, heaven, ect., but this thread is specifically dealing w/ songs that deal w/ this theme. So I'm not knocking songs that don't deal w/ this theme that are song at funerals but just wanting to compile a list of songs that deal w/ heaven, homegoing. :)
