Help Selecting Songs
« on: January 20, 2008, 01:27:11 PM »
Happy Sunday to All!!!

I belong to a Catholic church in rural Sussex County, NJ.  Our final choir mass for this season will be held on June 15th and it has been designated a Gospel mass.

I have volunteered to play the piano or organ for the mass so that our Music Director can conduct the choir during our meditation hymn.  I'd like to present some truly insprining and non-traditional options for the music selections for our gospel mass.  In the past we have simply jazzed up some of our more tradtional hymns.

While I can rattle off several gospel tunes that I adore, my trouble is in finding hymns that marry well with the readings for the day.

First Reading:      Exodus 19:2-6A
Resp. Psalm:        Psalm 100:1-2, 3, 5
Second Reading:  Romans 5:6-11
Gospel:               Matthew 9:36 - 10:8

The meditation hymn after communion is one I'd really like to raise the roof with!  We have a very talented choir with full and complete voicing on all parts.  I would be most honored if any help could be offered.  I want to bring a bit of what I hear and sang while growing up in Newark, NJ to the folks up here.  I especially want them to leave mass feeling a little more joy!

Blessings to all!

Anna
