Exactly. The DVD should be targeted at intermediate to advanced players. Beginners would only get confused or, at best, they would cram everything he showed them and not understand what they were doing.

It doesn't take away from him being a great player.

Rjthakid:
Jamal is very good.
Jamal is very smooth, and he's excellent at improvisation.

One of the Best?  No.

You asked for examples of who's better:

Derick Jackson, PJ Morgan, John Peters, David Jackson, Mike Bereal, Kevin Bond, Eddie Brown, and Travis Sayles.

You also asked for links.

I left out the Organ Clips, but all the guys I listed above with the exception of Kevin Bond are GREAT Organists also.

GospelMusicians:
I wouldn't consider me one of the best. I would say that I have a particular style that some tend to like and I have a particular teaching style that some like and some don't. I can think of a ton of guys who are way better than me. But remember, it's not all about being BETTER....Remember every person has something to give. It's just that I've been playing a while and a few people love my style and some could care less about it. If your ears love my style then praise God :-D.

One thing about theory, is that I have grown a lot. In the beginning I had no theory and now, I am actually coming out with a DVD that teaches the number system. So you can see that I, Jamal Hartwell, too am learning along with everyone else. I don't have all the chords and licks. I'm learning just like everyone else.

Please note that it is very difficult to do a DVD when 80% of the people who purchase, don't now theory at all. So the 20% are bored and want theory, whereas if I was all theory, then the 80% are lost. So it's hard to please both. What I say is this: If you know theory, then use it and apply patterns to what I am saying. And...remember on the Urban Worship Xtreme, where my theory was lacking, I added sheet music, and the names of the chords on the screen.

Hope this helps!

I personally am a big fan I to me you are one of the best.  I have all your DVD's and at first I was just learning licks and chords.  Now that I know a little theory I can apply your chords and licks.

Example your circle of fifths you taught on  Urban Worship Contemporary and the substitutes you taught on extreme are excellent chords you can use for a lot of songs in Db.

There is theory there if you know some theory.  You just have to know how  to apply it.
