Nice instruction, you are a good teacher. Do you give lessons?

A little side note the 3 is phrygian, you said it at first but at the end of the video you said the 3 was locrian which is actually the 7.

nice catch.

I knew i probably fumbled the naming conventions :(

I currently don't give lessons, because no one has ever asked.

Jeremy just wanted to publicly thank you for these video's that you have done.  I read your post over in Torch's post about it not really being a pleasure, but you do it for people's benefit.  God will bless you and I know he already has.  I sent you a PM, don't know if you saw it but hit back either way if it's a yea or nah.

Thanks Boss

Please correct me if I'm wrong:

The 1 has to be in major (Ionian) for this to work, right?  If the 1 was minor (Aeolian) then you would use the same modes in order and just count up to say the 4 (Dorian)?

Am I way off?

u would think of it as if you were operating off the 6 of the major scale

mode ---> Aeolian | Locrian | Ionian | Dorian | Phrygian | Lydian | Mixolydian | Aeolian

Minor key      1     |     2     |    b3   |     4    |     5      |    b6   |      b7      |      1
Major key      6     |     7     |    1     |     2    |     3      |    4    |      5        |      6

if the 1 is the Aeolian then technically the 7 could be the locrian scrale.

Follows the same concept.

huh?

if the song resolves on the 6 of a major scale, then you're really playing in a MINOR key.

So the 1 is now the Aeolian.
The 2 is the locrian

the 3 is the Ionian.

get it?

thats basically the same as the chart i wrote a few posts above.

u said the 7 would be the locrian instead of saying the 2 should be the locrian if the 1 is the aeolian. i think thats what confused me and threw me off. no prob

i phrased that based off of how the question was asked.

If you want to think of the song resolving on the 6 then techincally the 7 is still the locrian as you view the progression in a MAJOR key  signature.  So in this case  the 7 is locrian.

The moment that you refer to the 6 as the 1 then you're now refering to the progressions in a MINOR key signature.  So in this case  the 2 is locrian.

Jeremy, you are doing your thang brother. You making me feel like I need to pull out my camera and share some videos. I want to apologize to everyone since I haven't posted any videos that are instructional. Its hard finding time to do that when you work a full time job, commuting 1 hour both ways, wrapping up a MBA program and a toddler reaching the age of 3. Forgive me LGM family, but come december, I'll be finished with school and will have a bachelors and masters. Praise God!!!!! ;D
