Welcome to LGM

When it comes to drawbars I  keep it simple. I use:
008500000 (Quiet talk music) Left Hand Chords (you can also add the 2' drawbar)
888800000 Left Hand bass

888800000  008888000 (Same Sound as the previous one, but allows you to play lower on the keyboard)
088800000   (for quick right hand soloing)
658868558 (for old school Hymns) (Add C1 chorus)
888000000 Jazz setting
808500013 hymns
008804004 backing up preacher/west coast style
888880000
008030000
848400012

Sometimes I'll even take out the 8' on some settings and it gives a nice unique sound for backing up the preacher

I do a few more, but the you have to experiment with different settings. I some times add the 1' dawbar or some of the dissonent ones like the 1 3/5? (black ones) ex 808800601 if you use this setting play the left hand chords on the other manual with a  softer setting)

You also have to expeirment with playing in diffeent areas of the board with different settings

As for the Leslie switch, you cant just hit it every 2 seconds. When I do hymns  I leave it on slow during the verses and switch it to fast during the refrain or chorus. If you need help on the other switches let us know, cuz I know a bit about those

To get a full sound, you have to play a lot of notes and play in the proper range relative to your drawbar settting and you also have to play bass pedals

Here are a bunch of others

here are some more

I split this topic off because it's a totally different topic from the one it was under.  Left it a sticky for a quick reference.  God bless.

Thanks Nessa, I have posted that same exact post like 5 times in the past few months.

As soon as I get a chance I'm gonna make a video demonstrating different drawbar settings and when to use them.

wow short fuse this is whats up

pretty soon people will be answering queries with videos on a regular

thanks for ushering the 21st century

on another note with the drawbar question

here is my take on the subject

there are over 2 million possible combinations

so finding the one for you may be daunting

it is good to start with the most basic fundamental setting and work from there

I recently came back from Gmwa
and what I learned there is that sometimes less is more

if you use really phat chords you want to use less draw bar
maybe the 8 and 4  that is the first two white drawbars that are next to each other

if you like to play with two hands on the same manual this also works well for you

if you like playing with tritones or left hand chords on the upper manual
then
the 4 and 2 half way out is a nice setting for this

if you use more tame voicings but still want them to ring out
i found an interesting sound is

088888800
this is not a mistake you have to be sure you play accurately because the quint is all the way out and will tell on you if you make any mistakes
but if you play this settting elegantly it really rings out and sounds very full

let the drawbars do some of the work for you

I discovered that I need to redefine my organ playing I went back to the most basic of basic drawbar settings

8080000000 80 0088000000

this  is the basic jazz set up it allows you to play left hand bass and chords in the right hand
it also leaves room for two handed chords
the reason I like this set up
is that I dont have to fish around for anything If I get surprised and I need to revert to a keyboard style
this is perfect for it
essentially this is perfect for the keyboard player that needs to quickly play organ

as taste dictates you can add to this basic setting

for example if you need the bass to stand out a little

pull out the quint in the bass manual
87800000000
if you need to add a little to the right and part
you can bring out the upper partials a little

808000000012
To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word

I agree D, The Basic ones often sound the best

One setting I use, mostly for hymns like the Doxology etc, is kinda like a pipe organ setting. 808800220. Those two dissonent upper bars

And as PJ explained in the Video, you have to know how and when to change your bars. Some times you just have do a drastic changr, and it will suprise your listen.

ex. Going from 808000000 to 808000008 or going from a melow setting to a unexepected solo with a setting like 088800555, And you can keep the mellow setting in the left hand.

go ahead and drop that wisdon

i like this post i will have to save it and study it during my next church service

yes I said study it during my next church service
I often sit and experiment with the drawbars in between songs
until i find a new one I like

Thanks D., I'm Heavy into the Drawbars; always lookin for new sounds. The key for me is to just experiment, and as I listen to other organist, I try to figure out their settings. This past year I've gotten good at that.

As for that pipe organ setting, you can also try adding the 1'. You can also try something like what Derrick Jackson Uses in the "Classical apraoch ...." clip

And I rarely use tremelo on those type of settings. Maybe I'll add V1 Vibrato. And I'll  Change the Settings after each Verse, and Work my way up to a Fuller setting by the Final Verse.

wow thanks i needed to make a chart again keep it taped to the inside back cover of my hymn book
I used to do that in new york keep the draw bar settings up there for quick reference.

it may be time to do it all over again.

native instruments has a B3 clone if you can get your hands on that
go through their presets you will be able to see the draw bars in action.

also maudio has key rig and there is a virtual organ on there
and they have about 40 presets

also if you can get your hands on an old hammond manual they have hundreds of draw bar presets listed.

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word
