True.  I read somewhere that your 12th fret should be positioned halfway between your nut and your bridge.  While that is only a difference of one half inch between a 34" and 35" scale, the other frets would have to be placed proportionally as well.

didnt say that you could just move the bridge back. i know the fret spacing is different, but if the bridge was located further back then the stretch to the first fret wouldnt be as much, because the neck wouldnt protrude as much from the body of the bass.

ah, i get what you're saying.  I think that would mess with your frets you have available and leave you with a pretty funky body design that wouldn't be balanced to good (me thinks).

TIM (callowhill) you around so you can go into a little more detail with your infinate wisdom on building?

regardless of that 1 inch the stretch between frets would still be the same (which i couldn't take at all).

I know it's only an inch but it really does make a difference when reaching and playing in the fist and second fret positions! It can be fatiguing if you're not used to it. I'm still struggling with my decision to get a 34" or 35" bass.

does the scale also determine the number of frets? because im particular to 24-fret basses.

Floaded27 is dead on.  I only do 34", but you'll notice every bass I make (including the Junks) has the bridge at the far back edge of the body.  It makes it easier to reach the money makin' notes when engineered in conjunction with properly placed and executed body contours.

,but you still would have aggrivating intonaton problems

Congrats.  That was my choice when I was Lakland shopping.  I fell in love with that pickup system.  Then I lost that auction on ebay by $20 and then I saw that TRB in the store and the rest was history.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

Congrats on the 55-02. IMO the bass is an excellent buy for the money. I've had my 55-02 for about 4 months and I'm loving it more each day. It is a tone machine with an awesome low B!

Well, I received the bass yesterday! What a killer bass! It's a slap monster! Below are pics borrowed from the seller. The pickguard is not affixed. I removed it and am selling it.

Brand new, I'm looking at the Fender American Standard 5 string and the Lakland Skyline Daryl Jones 5 string. Used, I'm trying to catch a Roscoe SKB series 5 string for a really good price ($1200 tops). Yeah, I know, I'm dreaming about that one but you never know! Anyway, has anyone here had any experience playing the Lakland Skyline DJ5? If so, how do you like the sound as compared to a Fender Jazz? Both of the models I'm looking at are passive but can have a pre-amp added and pups changed out pretty easily.
DW I had a DJ5 for a very short time and I liked it because it was Passive, but I didn't care for the 35'inch Scale length, and I also wanted to get back to basses that the neck had  "True" Rock Maple not Quatersawn or flatsawn, but other than that it was a nice bass.
