Finding chords to music

Buy an electronic guitar tuner.  Hold it up to the speaker, while you play the recorded song, the chords will show up on the tuner!

Friend of God is missing a section. I'll try to see if I can get the rest of it.

Are you serious?  Does that work even with the Boss Chromatic Tuner?

I came across this chat sight in my search for a song. You claim to have the sheet music for I am a friend of God. If God wills it to your heart I would like to have a copy. I am currently getting back to the music ministry at my church. I am a note reader, and they play off of chords and ears. I have choosen this peice for its message, and I am trying to learn how to coordinate my mind into the chord reading aspect of music. But since I just started I could really use a reference point to make sure I have the chord structure right. I would greatly appreciate it if you could help. ancientwillow79@yahoo.com.

I'm afraid that wont work.  Tuners are designed to pick up individual notes.  You'll have to use your ears to figure out chords.

Emaj - C#m7 - F#m7 - Emaj

That's the intro/verse/chorus. The only change is when they sing "It's amazing" and that chord is a D (and can be changed to a Dmaj7 and then D13 to Bmaj when they repeat "It's amazing")

The bridge "God almighty, Lord of glory..." is:

Amaj - E/G# - F#m - A

Repeat that until the last time when the A turns to a Bmaj and resolves back to the E of the intro/verse/chorus.

Git it?

These so-called "slash chords" are inversions.  The note to the left of the chord indicates the bass while the note to the right is the chord.   Most inversion utilize chord or scale tones other than the root for the bass, but there are altered chord voicings that use "outside" notes.

Sorry...I got that "inverted" (pun intended).  The note to the left of the slash is the chord while the note to the right is the bass.

Yes and no.
Not all "slash chords" are inversions. There are non-inversion slash chords.
G/B is an inversion, since the bass note B is in the G chord triad.
D/E is a non-inversion slash chord since the bass note E is nowhere in the D chord triad.

The way to read them: chord first/bass note second

btw: the proper name for those chords is compound chords, while the popular name is slash chords.
