Here are some tips for playing in this key:

1.  Major scale - There are 4 black notes and 3 white notes in the major scale of this key.  It is very easy to play wrong notes if you are not paying attention.  The first note most of you will forget about is the Db.  I guarantee someone is going to play D natural the first few times.  It's o.k., it happens to everybody.

2.  Chording - Since there are an uneven distribution of white and black notes, almost every chord you play in this key will contain at least 1 black and 1 white note.  So, if you come across a chord that is all black or white notes, it probably means u have played a chord incorrectly. There are exceptions, but that's the general rule.

3.  Runs - Runs are a little easier to pull off in this key than others because for some reason the notes fit into your hands easier. You will still have to start slow to learn the notes, but after a little practice, you can do runs in lightning speed in this key.

You're NOT hearing me. I need more progression like THAT one. That's perfect for what we need during prayer or altar call.

I see, here are some that I do all the time. I'll stick with the key of Ab:

m1-b7-b6-b7 (key is Ab minor, Cb/B major)

Ab / Eb-Ab-Cb
Gb / Db-Gb-Bb
Fb / Cb-Fb-Ab or Fb / Cb-Eb-Ab
Gb / Db-Gb-Bb
(repeat)

*Sometimes, I like to go to the parallel minor to create a different mood

b7-1-2-3-6

Gb / Db-F-Ab
Ab / Eb-G-Bb
Bb / F-Ab-Db
C / Fb-Ab-Bb-Eb
F / G-Ab-Bb-Eb
(repeat)

*U can use different inversions of the 1st 3 chords to get the sound u want

6-3-4-5-#5

F / C-F-Ab
C / Bb-Eb-G
Db / C-Db-Eb-Ab
Eb / Db-F-Ab-C
E / Db-E-G-Bb
(repeat)

6-3

F / G-Bb-Eb
C / F-Bb-D
(repeat)

1-4, 3-b3-2-5

Ab / C-Eb-Ab or Ab / Bb-Eb-G
Db / C-Eb-Ab or Db / C-Db-Eb-Ab
(repeat 2x)

C / Bb-Eb-G
Cb / A-Db-Eb-Ab
Bb / Db-Eb-F-Ab
Eb / Db-F-Ab
(repeat all)

Those are a few progressions I like to use during those quiet times.  I love experimenting and making new stuff.  I got pages and pages full of stuff I just make up during practice or during church.  If u need help with tempo or whatever for these, I can add if u want.

C / Bb-Eb-G

Those are a few progressions I like to use during those quiet times.  I love experimenting and making new stuff.  I got pages and pages full of stuff I just make up during practice or during church.  If u need help with tempo or whatever for these, I can add if u want.

I'll print that out tomorrow.  ;) 8)

I see, here are some that I do all the time. I'll stick with the key of Ab:

m1-b7-b6-b7 (key is Ab minor, Cb/B major)

Ab / Eb-Ab-Cb
Gb / Db-Gb-Bb
Fb / Cb-Fb-Ab or Fb / Cb-Eb-Ab
Gb / Db-Gb-Bb
(repeat)

*Sometimes, I like to go to the parallel minor to create a different mood

b7-1-2-3-6

Gb / Db-F-Ab
Ab / Eb-G-Bb
Bb / F-Ab-Db
C / Fb-Ab-Bb-Eb
F / G-Ab-Bb-Eb
(repeat)

*U can use different inversions of the 1st 3 chords to get the sound u want

6-3-4-5-#5

F / C-F-Ab
C / Bb-Eb-G
Db / C-Db-Eb-Ab
Eb / Db-F-Ab-C
E / Db-E-G-Bb
(repeat)

6-3

F / G-Bb-Eb
C / F-Bb-D
(repeat)

1-4, 3-b3-2-5

Please add the tempo.  Thanks  :)
Ab / C-Eb-Ab or Ab / Bb-Eb-G
Db / C-Eb-Ab or Db / C-Db-Eb-Ab
(repeat 2x)

C / Bb-Eb-G
Cb / A-Db-Eb-Ab
Bb / Db-Eb-F-Ab
Eb / Db-F-Ab
(repeat all)

Man, I use all different inversions.  This is just a blue print.  I may even modulate a few times depending on how I feel, LOL.

Here are some tips for playing in this key:

3.  Runs - Runs are a little easier to pull off in this key than others because for some reason the notes fit into your hands easier. You will still have to start slow to learn the notes, but after a little practice, you can do runs in lightning speed in this key.

One key in particular (IMO) is C#/Db. That key also is good to run on cause how the notes fit right into your hands.

Yup, other keys are Eb, Gb, and F.  Bb and C are not bad either.
