New Practice Routine for the New Year
« on: December 29, 2010, 10:53:17 AM »
Hello LGM Fam!

I thought I'd share my new practice routine as the year approaches.  I got it from some post in Talkbass:

1) Warm-Up (TJ Technique Builders, Bass Fitness, others as required)
2) Reading
3) Chord Studies (chord quality, arpeggios, inversions, all over the neck)
4) Scale Studies (modes, all over the neck)
5) Jazz Walking (Band-In-A-Box, iPhone Real Book app)
6) Specialty Techniques (Slap)
7) Ear Training (EarMaster Pro, transcriptions)
8) Play (anything and everything).

I just acquired a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB and Reaper, and I hope to start recording myself soon, with the thought of hearing those recordings, assessing which area I'm weak on and working on it.  I plan to do monthly recordings/assessments and see how that goes.

Do you have a favorite practice routine that you'd like to share?

Thx!

Sounds challenging, stay focused! I am more or less all over the place with practice sometimes. I do try to run through my modes and arpeggios most days. But usually my time is short and if there is a new song for service or a specific task my instructor has given me I have to try to spend the bulk of the time on those things. I think I will try formulating a set routine and see how it goes.
Rest?, Rest when you're dead!!! Right now there's work to be done.

Hey this is a great idea.  I've been doing some of the same things you are doing.  Every Fridays is my shed time to learn new music, practice my reading, ear training, techniques, scales, arpegio's, and modes.  I like your out line, do you mind if i borrow it?  Our church is in a 40 day fast, i've decided to take one scale per week and master it, moving up the neck chromaticlly.  AA#BCD#D#EFF# and so one.  I need to master my finger board so that i can out line chords at the drop of a hat.
