Al plays in that old style.

Great rhythmic propensity, and not too many extensions.

Maybe the title should've read former gospel guitarist!
However, all of you out there, retracing the role of the guitarist in gospel and especially quartet, here's one of the originals!!!
While he is more known as a secular artist, he never left his gospel roots, and returned to them in the '70's, during the height of his career.
Even though he's utilizing barre chords, the feel and placement are integral to early quartet gospel's style.
