Percussive Bass Playing
« on: February 15, 2010, 01:18:10 PM »
I was just wonder if any of you could fill in gaps say if you didn't have a drummer in a live service. Especially on slow songs? Could you still hold the bottom and give a sense of a beat? I can do this on keys and organ by switching my style but it seems a little difficult to do on a slow song.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

yeah it's doable.  if you palm mute and use your thumb and index on the strings you can get kind of what i call a "drum kit" feel/flavor.  Between plucking with both fingers and using your palm to slap the strings in between you can get a lot of filler going on.
