bass or tuba?

I was just listening to "Bye and Bye" by the Georgia Mass Choir and the bass line made me think of a tuba.

Has anyone else noticed bass guitars sounding more like a tuba?

Or is there no similarity beside they are just playing the low notes?

in my opinion and observation tuba is the low end of the brass section. it has that bottom and a lot of fatness, but in some songs its played in the context of a brass instrument (part of the horn section) so it doesnt quite replace the bass. however i've heard a few songs (actually created a few tracks myself) where that tuba is playing what would amount to a bass line and it holds it down just fine (once again, in MY opinion)

I would see this thread headed back to work.  I'll get back to you later.  I love Bob Stewart.  Howard Johnson was a big influence on me growing up (no not the hotel, the jazz tuba player).
