What are the major and minor scales? What is a easy way to figure them?

Torch7 has good videos teaching the basic theory. Cant remember the site off the top of my heat though. Gospelbassline.com I think. he is on here though.

So let me see if I have this right; if you have a scale lets say Eb= Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb, and I did 1 4 5 progression and for fun I wanted to do a lil run on the 4 which is Ab, would I just run the Ab scale or is this the place where the Mods come in...Just asking :-\

This scenario is where understanding  Modes would come in.  Also knowing arpeggios,  and  when to play a major or minor pentatonic.

In you example only one note from the Ab scale wouldn't fit in the key of Eb.  THe D would be a Db.  So the Lydidan mode would be all the notes of the Eb scale with the Ab as the tonic.
