Welcome to LGM Samiant.  There are thousands of potentially good songs out there; what kind of music are you into?  How skilled are you on the guitar?

Most, chords on the guitar a movable - that is once you have learned the shape of a chord, you can easily tranfer it to other keys.  Do you understand some basic chord progressions?  If so, I would suggest listening to some songs that you like and play along with them.

Seriously, who plays that B barre chord anymore? I sure as heck don't. I usually always play the sus2 instead. I am way too lazy to play that full B barre. :)

I'm more concerned by the length of time under your belt but not being able to play any form of a B chord.

I'd say before focusing on more songs, do some finger strength exercises and work on your barre and moveable chords (which would also include simply learning all the notes on the fretboard).

That will open up ANY song to you. :)

Time to take a step backward. What do you mean when you say "I know a song". Does it mean that you can play open position chords along with the song in one key? Does it mean you know a signature lick or lead line from a song? Many songs have the same or similar chord progressions as many of use learn to anticipate some changes. If you are able to make these changes many songs open up.

Before just adding songs become the goal can you play the songs you know in other keys? Can you sing and play? can you take different roles like adding a fill instead of banging out the chords?

I was just putting up the songs that I had in my song book cause jlynnb1 asked
What songs have you learned?

And I can sing/play all of them

JayP5150  Do you know where I can find out how to play a B and where I can get a list of all the chords?

Google is your friend. Or, for that matter, go to your local department store and grab one of those giant chord posters. I know it seems kitschy, but they really are a helpful reference.

Also, search this forum for posts on barre chords.

1st result on a google search of 'guitar chords'

http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/

I can't see the full site on my phone, but IIRC, this was a very useful tool.

Also, search this forum for 'finger exercises' to help build strength for those barres.

Umm... When you state you can't play a basic major chord, and we offer advice, that's not trying to change the WAY you play, but trying to help you scheive a better level of musicianship all around.

Sorry you took that the wrong way. No offense, but have fun on your plateau. I've been there... I didn't enjoy it.

Apologies for not offering a quick and dirty answer or a band aid. That's just not how I teach.

Well, i'm glad there's no hard feelings. Sorry for the misunderstanding, and for replying when I was tired and grumpy lol.

However, aside from learning more songs (which IS good to do), I would give you a friendly encouragement to really get into the nuts and bolts of your instrument and then watch how quickly you grow as a musician.

You'll reach a point-and fairly quickly-where you will be able to dissect stuff by ear. And that's a VERY satisfying thing.
