Our Pastor expects more from the Praise Team than from the choir, etc...some expectations...
- Be committed, practicing Christians (moral lifestyle)
- Be teachable and willing to grow spiritually and musically
- Come to rehearsals and services on time (unless in emergency - if you miss, give notice if possible)
- Dress appropriately
- Deal with others in love and respect - fellow team members, church leaders, members, visitors, etc.
A lot of this is attitude - you are not there to show off, but to let God use you and to serve others.
Basically Pastor wants no 'mess'. In the past he has had problems with stylistic issues and dissension in the group, band members leaving service early to play for another ministry, playing in other church's services (at the same time as ours - without telling him) and 'divas' who questioned song choice, sulked when thing didn't go their way, or when they could not sing their songs. One praise leader a few years ago took his sound equipment, left with his band and formed his own church!
IMO whatever rules you decide on, communication and trust is key to any successful ministry...
