Our Pastor expects more from the Praise Team than from the choir, etc...some expectations...

- Be committed, practicing Christians (moral lifestyle)

- Be teachable and willing to grow spiritually and musically

- Come to rehearsals and services on time (unless in emergency - if you miss, give notice if possible)

- Dress appropriately

- Deal with others in love and respect - fellow team members, church leaders, members, visitors, etc.

A lot of this is attitude - you are not there to show off, but to let God use you and to serve others.

Basically Pastor wants no 'mess'. In the past he has had problems with stylistic issues and dissension in the group, band members leaving service early to play for another ministry, playing in other church's services (at the same time as ours - without telling him) and 'divas' who questioned song choice, sulked when thing didn't go their way, or when they could not sing their songs. One praise leader a few years ago took his sound equipment, left with his band and formed his own church!

IMO whatever rules you decide on, communication and trust is key to any successful ministry...

This is an excerpt from our Music Department book that we've created at our church.

Standards for the Music Department

Major Principles:
1.   Your Testimony is more important than your Talent.
2.   Brokenness before God is more important than Skill.
3.   Shape-ability is more important than what you know.
4.   Teamwork is more important than Individualism. (We are stronger together than we are apart)
5.   Cultivating Relationships is more important than self-service.
6.   It's not about me, it's not about now. It's all about HIM and HIM ONLY.

Guidelines and Expectations:
1. Christ-like Attitude.
   - Graciousness          - Kindness
   - Thoughtfulness        - Consideration of Others

2. Priority of Prayer
   - Daily prayer for each other
   - Weekly prayer together
   - Prayer time for all involved prior to any event.

3. Commitment to minister the heart of God.
4. Teachability and Humility.
5. Honesty and Truthfulness.
6. Dependability.
   - To the Team
   - To the Schedule

7. No Unwholesome Talk: Ephesians 4:29 says:
-Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for
edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
   - No complaining                - No gossiping: talk directly with
   - No belittling                       those whom you have a problem
   - No venomous talk               with

8.   Focused on Christ, pointing others to Him.
9.   Keen awareness  of what is happening in the service.
10.   Be Prompt (on time) it is a way to respect and honor others.
11.   A Winning Attitude, constantly improving to reach your maximum potential.
12.   Team Builder, seeks to build relationships.
13.   Collaborator, contributes cheerfully to the team.
14.   No Competitiveness.
15.   No Territorialism.

“My desire is to honor these guidelines. I submit to the oversight
of the leadership of Music Department. With a desire to glorify God
through my service, I offer my gifts and talents.”
