Just learning, when u say numbers I assume u r not talking about tab stuff but rather the numbers in the major scale?? Thanks so much
Yes! lets take two major scales, C major and Bb major and place numbers under each degree of the scale:

 C D E F G A B C            Bb C  D  Eb  F  G  A  Bb
 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8             1   2   3  4   5   6  7   8

now if I say play a 251 progression in the key C major you would play: D(2)-G(5)-1(C)

if I say play a 251 progression in the key of Bb major you would play: C(2)-F(5)-Bb(1)   

Here's a G major scale: G A B C D E F# G  if I say play a 251 progression in the key of G major what would you play ?/?

Now you should be able to play this song, 1 3 4 5 , 2 5 1 in the key of C major :D.
