Hello There
« on: December 06, 2011, 12:45:17 AM »
Uhhhhh so I'm very new to gospel just as in general because I am a korean (asian american) who plays the bass in a African American church called highway and hedges in new york. When I saw people shouting and even the level of music played I was in shock.... But what I wanted to ask is for help for a new person in gospel music. I got the basics like shoutlines and other stuff down, but I want to get better for more then myself because I wanna bring all this culture back to my Korean church and teach the children and adults a different view. It was something God placed into my heart so deeply.  Cause in heaven there is no skin or color or even race. There is one people under One GOD! I have some musical background I play in a Big band (jazz) and had many theory lessons So I know the number systems keys modulation etc.

For a newbie like myself where should I begin please help me and bless you all =)

For someone in your position my first suggestion wold be to just listen to as much as you can and familiarize yourself with the music. Your head is in the right place to grow already. Welcome to LGM.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Get some of the following CDs. These guys cover a wide array of gospel music on their CDs. It should get you going pretty good. Welcome to LGM! Do you have any clips of your playing.?

Donnie Mcclurkin - Hymns, Psalms, and Spiritual Songs
Israel and New Breed - Live from South Africa
Richard Smallwood - Any of his CDs
Hawkins Family Reunion - Any on of these
Fred Hammond - Best of Fred Hammond
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.
