beginners please use your metronome or drum machine
« on: March 07, 2012, 05:47:21 AM »
the organ is a rhythmic instrument just like a drum in fact it is like a drum with a lot more heads

I practiced a lot of organ without a metronome and I am now spending a lot of time repairing my timing issues

it is frustrating and could have been avoided if i had worked with a metronome from the beginning

there are several ways to work with a metronome
the most basic way is

you can put the clicks on the quarter notes

another way is to put the clicks on the eight notes

more advanced methods is to set the clicks on the 2 and 4
and the most advanced method is
to just have the click play the one

or every other one which is the super advanced method

this way you learn to play with the metronome not to the metronome

of course if you are able to bring your drum machine or click track to your organ then by all means.

I am just trying to help beginners not to make the same mistake I did.

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word

A---men, A---men,
A-men, Amen, Amen!

Good advice for all musicians, but especially for drummers - put in the work and other singers and musicians will thank you...

really?

the main organ for gospel is hammond
and hammonds dont have drum machines

the top clones are
vk77 nord c2 and neither of these have drum machines built in.

I had a big wulitzer back in the day and that didnt have a drum machine I have an A100 and that doesent have a drum machince
my church organ is a C3 and that doesent have a drum machine

so to answer your question no most organs do not but there are many  that do but they
do not have the hammond sound and so generally probably are not in too many gospel musicians house holds

never the less if you have  a drum machine on your organ use it
and if you dont feel like playing to the rhumba the polka or rock beat (which is what is on those organs you are speaking about)
then use your metronome as previously stated.

so true-You encouraged me to be more disiplined and were RiGht!!!!!!!

I tried to post this-but I think the link is blocked:you tube  search Bill Champlin  "After the love is gone" -should be 2 or 3 rd choice;Bill + his family playing it live.(I think he wrote it for EWF with David Foster).

Then search EWF playing it.

(I'm not dissing BC-great playing-but listen,maybe it's just recording quality fades in/out,tempo off etc..)

I've noticed something in applying this bro-trying to focus on making my lines "sing" more like a horn player;tricky but having the beat makes it easier to focus.

btw-off topic;how is the CD burner on your Tascamm? I've got 2 mixers;but want to get a 2488 or a Microboards burner/copier.

My Sony burner was/is a dog.
