Hey gruvn-low this is an example of exercise 1 ( 1-4-5-2-3-7-6-1) above the 12th fret and below the 12th fret @ 120 bpm, in the key of Bb. excuse the string buzzing. Right know I just want you to get used to playing the intervals (numbers) then later we'll deal with adding notes (numbers) to the progressions.
Arthur59, why those particular numbers? Are they a catch all for changes that you would most often use?
I know it isn't fair, but I can now play the exercises at the instructed rate. I had an edge since I could already play bass at an advanced beginner level. It was good practice.
If you were playing the numbers and singing the numbers like I suggested you should be able to play exercise one (1-4-5-2-3-7-6-1) WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS! TRY IT, IF YOU PLAY THE WRONG NUMBERS (notes) YOUR EARS WILL LET YOU KNOW! We're going to combine ear training and playing by numbers together
Should I play down the scale or up the scale on a six string bass?
Next assignment: now play exercise one: 1-4-5-2-3-7-6-1 this time play numbers 4-5-7-6 in your lower register i'm not going to post a video on this you should be able to figure it out!... and come up with your own finger pattern
