Hey gruvn-low this is an example of exercise 1 ( 1-4-5-2-3-7-6-1) above the 12th fret and below the 12th fret @ 120 bpm, in the key of Bb. excuse the string buzzing. Right know I just want you to get used to playing the intervals (numbers) then later we'll deal with adding notes (numbers) to the progressions.
Also get used to singing the intervals, the numbers. Sing: "1-4-5-2-3-6-7-1 - 1-4-5-2-3-6-7-1 sing throughout the day while at work, school, the gym just sing "1-4-5-2-3-6-7-1  1-4-5-2-3-6-7-1"etc...

This is also part of our ear training, singing the numbers! ;)

Arthur59, why those particular numbers?  Are they a catch all for changes that you would most often use?

I know it isn't fair, but I can now play the exercises at the instructed rate. I had an edge since I could already play bass at an advanced beginner level. It was good practice.

The reason for these particular numbers? I just want you to get used to playing and hearing different intervals shapes, and I want your fingers to get used to playing different intervals (numbers) in one hand position.

If you were playing the numbers and singing the numbers like I suggested you should be able to play exercise one (1-4-5-2-3-7-6-1) WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS! TRY IT, IF YOU PLAY THE WRONG NUMBERS (notes) YOUR EARS WILL LET YOU KNOW! ;D

We're going to combine ear training and playing by numbers together :D

I've been singing the numbers all day at work I also added a melody to it. When I got home and picked up my bass I played it with no problem. I heard it in my head before I played it on the bass. These lessons are great for bass player that play on Sundays at church. I'm loving the lessons bro, keep it coming.

Thanks!

Start with your lowest note and work your way up! once you can play it at 120 bpm then you can move on to the NEXT ASSIGNMENT. :o
