Ugh...that's my least favorite version of the song. The Crowder/Passion version is a lot more daring and dynamic.

Regarding Aussies in the band...the drummer is the only one left. And they don't even have a bass player. It's all synth or tracks bass.

Well, you can blame the kids for that.....ok, not totally because I actually like this version but all three of my girls love it.  Ever since Phil Joel left, they band has been bass-less.  I think Joel now plays guitar with Peter Furler.

YEEEESSSUUH!!!
*Looking up David Crowder version*
It just doesn't feel like the Newsboys without the accent... and with the change in musical style, even less so. =\
It's pretty neat that they're able to function without a bass player, though. I really liked "Something Beautiful". Phil Joel was my favorite Newsie (I wonder if he'll ever cut his hair) =(. I was sad when he left, but he made some pretty cool music when he did. He wrote/lead most of my favorite Newsboys songs, I think.

LOL, when they came out with Tait's version of "Glorious" I took that and the original version and mashed them together, with Tait's track panned to one channel, and Furler's to the other. Called it "Tait vs. Furler"... I'd meant to upload it to youtube waaay back when, but I never got the chance...

It was pretty funny hearing them sing together like that... lol

I liked Micheal Tait w/ dc talk and liked some of his solo stuff, too.
I saw Newsboys live 2 years ago when he first joined and they're still decent and put on a cool show, but, like you, I'm a fan of the Furler/Joel era, especially "Step Up to the Microphone". That CD is just amazing to me. Almost progressive rock in some ways.
The new stuff I just don't dig.

My Redeemer Lives - Hillsong w/ lyrics

We've done this song a few times at church....it's been a while though.

BTW, what is an ancient sky, and what does it mean to ride one?
Can't tell if that's a sincere question but I'll give it a sincere answer--I'll try to be brief as I could dedicate pages to this topic alone.  :)

I've always assumed the song was a reference to Daniel 7 (some other verses as well); possibly THE most important passage to a Christian.
The "rider of the clouds" title was one of Baal but was also used as a polemic by the Biblical writers. So anyone reading Daniel 7 would've known deity was involved anytime that phrase or a variant was used.
Daniel 7:
"13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man,[a] coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."

So the "son of man" approaches the Ancient of Days (Yahweh), meaning the two aren't the same, yet this "son of man" is given the title of deity!
It's scenes like this one (and there are others) that caused the Jews, especially during the inter-testimental period, to speculate over the idea of a 2nd Yahweh. This idea was not deemed heretical until 2nd-3rd century AD.

With this in mind, when Jesus was arrested for blasphemy and the high priest asks him if he is the Messiah, Jesus answers by quoting Dan 7.
And they respond with: “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy."
It was viewed as blasphemy because Jesus was identifying himself as the cloud rider, which by extension meant he was calling himself God.

Well it appears that former dcTalk member Kevin Max has followed in the footsteps of his fellow former colleague Michael Tait by becoming the new lead singer for the band Audio Adrenaline.

Does "riding the ancient skies" as opposed to "riding the skies" show that God has always been while Baal is just a man-made thing?

Yep.

We're doing "Ancient Skies" this weekend...by request, even.

Another new song that my church has been singing lately is actually a CCM "hit" that came to me via one of my guitar students:

Love Is Here - Tenth Avenue North (Lyrics)

Did I post this already?

It is. With a smile.

Unfortunately, the rest of your post still doesn't answer my question, really. I understand the significance of it, putting Jesus above Baal. "Baal may ride the sky, but God rides the ANCIENT skies."

Does "riding the ancient skies" as opposed to "riding the skies" show that God has always been while Baal is just a man-made thing?
It could.
I'm not sure if Gungor was trying to make a deep theological statement with the song though; he may not even be aware of the Baal connection.
I think he was just using a familiar biblical phrase.
I think it's probably as simple as that; I just wanted to point out the phrases origin and it's implications.  :)

To the thread topic, I haven't seen mentioned Nothing Is Impossible by Planetshakers with Israel Houghton.

Another blast from the past.  here's Zoe Girl - "With All of My Heart"

ZOEgirl- With All My Heart

This again illustrates the fact that CCM is not a specific style of music.  In fact, it's the lyrics that make CCM what it is.  So when you have lots of people buying urbanized pop music in the mainstream, there will be a Christianized alternative out there as well.  Another example of how CCM is just one monolithic musical forum is Bob Carlisle's song "In The Hands of Jesus"....it's pretty much a gospel song.
