Prayer Chords question
« on: September 28, 2013, 09:34:55 AM »
As I transition to the organ, this is an area I struggle with. I'm not sure exactly how to explain it but.....

I want to do powerful prayer type chords. Lets say church is just starting and someone is praying with a bit of authority, but not like a preacher. The playing style is not as sweet and sentimental as worship, but also not as "minor and diminished" as warfare, yet its not as harsh as flat out preacher chords. Do I sound crazy and confused yet?

I've tried to do kind of like a "build up" progression.

For example: If I'm in Ab, I'd start on the dominant. And while holding Ab in the bass, I'll move to Amaj, Bmaj, Cmaj, Dmaj, and so on. It gives sort of a "build up" effect.

What are some things you guys do when someone's leading a powerful prayer, or to give that "build up" effect? Any help would be greatly appreciated....
