Pearl's Sensitone Snare

Well this is the version i have. Bought it about 4 years ago now and it has never let me down. It even shipped with Remo Ambassadors top and bottom. When i played quartet, i gotta admit it held its own. For that style of music, i like my snare pretty tight. This thing would CRACK and cut thru any mix on stage. Depending on the venue i could get away with not micing it directly because it projects just that much. Now im playing jazz/R&B and have detuned it a bit. Still loud, still cuts through, just thick and fat now....works well with my band!!! Hope that helps

Hey Kevykev388, sorry didn't see you responded to this sorry for the delay. Do you think the aluminum shell would have the same effect?

...the Sensitone Aluminum snare will give you a drier sound.  The 6.5x14 Aluminum is a beast along with the 5x14 size.

...the 6.5x14 will give you a sound similar to what Big Mike Clemons used on "Jesus At The Center" album though Big Mike used a Crush Aluminum that is killer!!!

...the 5x14 is king in the Studio and Live will get you close to Dave Weckl's sound depending on the tuning.  To sum things up; both sizes are dope and it all depends on what your music application is.  It is a drier snare sound than the Steel Sensitone and not as bright that's for sure.
