How do you get a good distortion at a lower Volume
« on: March 21, 2005, 09:13:05 AM »
Hello All,

I have a Peavey Classic 30, and I am having a hard time getting a good distortion at a lower volume level. I was wondering if anyone could recomend a distortion pedal, or shed a little insight on what I can do.

The Classic 30 has to be crank a little to much for me to get a good fuzz or distortion out of it. The older Christians are starting to complain.

Thank you and God Bless

I AM ASSUMING THAT YOU OVERDRIVE YOUR AMP BY TURNING THE MASTER VOLUME DOWN LOW AND THE CHANNEL VOLUME UP....YOU CAN USUSALLY GET THE VOLUME QUITE LOW WITH THAT METHOD....

Yeap, on the overdrive channel, I have a Pre volume and a post volume. I put the pre on 8 out of 12 and the post( which is the master) on 3 out of 12. Anything higher on the post is too loud for the 'Mothers' sitting up front.

a pedal is not going to help you reallly going by the settings you just gave on your amp. Looks like your about as low as you can go anyway. I suggest turning your amp to face away from the congregation and miking it or put the amp in a side closet on the stage and mic'ing it in there. That way your sound guy can mix you thu the mains. For a pedal stay away from the boss ds1. I use a fulltone full drive 2 or boss sd2 ( not made anymore) Another very transparent drive is the xotic ac driver. It retains more low end like the sd2.
