7 STRING BASS

Have anyone played a 7 string bass of any kind. I believe it has a low F string added from a 6 string.
How do it sound is. I only see them online. I wish I could play the 7 string to get an idea if I want to purchase it soon  or later.

Never played one, but if tune that low F# down a step, you'll be one octave lower than the low E!  I wonder how well a conventional bass string could articulate a note at that frequency.

I played the Ibanez BTB 7-string in a store for a few hours, and it was tuned with a high E string instead of a low F#.

Sound is a difficult thing to say just looking online. Which one's are you looking at? I actually liked the Ibanez a lot...it had the CAP pickups which are basically magnetic "blades" like the VFL's in Peavey's Cirrus line. It was pretty mellow, but had a really nice slap tone.

Obviously 7-string basses are big instruments so I had to get used to the neck, and it was a little heavier than I'm used to.

Hopefully you'll get a chance to try one out before you buy.

FunkStrat, there are quite a few companies now that do extra large string gauges just for drop-tuned players. Circle K, DR, D'Addario, LaBella all come to mind. I've seen .160 and .170 gauges!

O wow. Yeah  I was mistaken the 7 string  bass has a  high F. Yeah  I  guess  if I want to have more options playing high  I can  go this direction.

Way too much metal for me.....as in strings.   Went the 6-string route a while back.  I was not good at it.  (<--- understatement)

Yeah I understand  your point, I have 2 six strings and my next bass is to go back to the 5 string.
More options  5 and 6 string bass my favorite.

I'm still having problems knowing what keys or chord in correct order to play songs in church.
Can't someone help me understand what direction to go about play the correct keys. I know all the  scales and most chords, but how do I make music out of that. I hope I'm making  sense.

I have been playing a Conklin GTBD-7 for years. IMO, it is the best production 7-string on the market. Mine is tuned F#-C. I can't see myself playing anything else. I get my strings from ww.circlekstrings.com/store/. Great, balanced tension string. I use the .190 gauge for the F# string.
