Guitar chords for Seasons - Tiffany Bynoe
« on: February 16, 2016, 08:47:49 AM »
Hello All,
There is a song I have been hearing on the radio, and I just love the chord progression, but I cannot seem to get it all right. The song is "Seasons" by Tiffany Bynoe. The chord progression really makes the song. If someone could decipher the chords, I would really appreciate it. I do know its in E flat, but my ears aren't trained enough to figure them out. Thanks in advance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqKm1Co8I8s

The song is in the key of F#.  The chords are  G# minor, B major, F# major, C#/F.

You're welcome....BTW, E flat is the relative minor key to F#.

I was going to say that the e minor pentatonic scales works perfectly over this song. So the key could be considered E flat minor right?

It is common practice to refer to the major when denoting a song's key unless the emphasis is on the minor tonality.

Hey FunkStrat, Sorry to bother you, but I have tried these chords and something doesn't sound right. Could you post where on the guitar you are playing these? A video would be really helpful if possible. Thank you.

I'll try and see if I can get a video.  In the Key of F# you have:

I.   F# Major/Ionian
II.  G# minor/Dorian
III. A# minor/Phrygian
IV.  B   Major/Lydian
V.   C# Major/Mixolydian
VI.  D# Minor/Aeolian (natural minor)
VII. E# Diminished/Locrian

It's been a while since I've played it, but there a couple of things that I tend to do.  Namely, I almost always play a minor 7th chord vs. a straight minor.  Why?  Because it's easy.  In this particular example, the change from G# minor to B major only requires the bass to change from G# to B.  The underlying triad stays the same.  I'll re-examine it and see what's up.

OK...I see what I did.  It should be G# min, B Maj, D# min, C# Maj.
