Nah, you wasnt stupid.  If you're not going to use it and you know someone who will put it to good use then you aight.  But I sure would like to find one of those.  Anybody know where I can find one?

Was it a "stage" rhodes or "suitcase" rhodes?  Meaning did it come with that big ole amp that you sit the rhodes on or just the metal legs?  Also was it 73 keys or 88 keys?  I'm just curious.  But $500 sounds like a good price, I would definitely pay that for one that was in pretty good condition.

If you had the one that sits on the amp then I wouldn't have sold it, unless it went to someone I you who already knows how to play. The ones that sit on the amp are very nice.

I have one it was my grandpa's I spent a lot of time and money having it restored to playing condition.  It's one of my most prized possesions.

I have a Rhodes.  I bought it in '77 or '78.  It's 88 keys and sits on top of its own amp.

 For some reason, all rhodes pianos don't sound the same.  I wanted mine to sound like Stevie Wonders, but it didn't. It sounds a lot darker.  I have since learned that, the rhodes has gone through several changes.  The pianos made in the sixties, sound more bell like then the pianos made in the seventies and eighties.

   I didn't like the sound of mine for a long time.  But over time, I have gotten use to it.  It does sound a lot better with age. Better than any digital piano out there.  I wouldn't sell it for anything now.

Actually, you can adjust the pickups and the action and get it to sound like just about any Rhodes you'd like.  There are plenty of sites out there with information about this.

Ok, check this out.  I've never played a Rhodes.  The only experience I have with a Rhodes is hearing Stevie play it sometimes in concert.

I have a question.  I mean no offense.  This whole Rhodes cult following isn't a bunch of old fogies sitting around dreaming about the "good old days", is it?  I mean no disrespect.  I’m just trying to figure out why technology from 30+ years ago can be more desirable than what’s out now.

I have to try this thing out!  Where can I get my hands on a Rhodes without buying through ebay first?

I'll tell you, it's the exact same thing as the guys that say "these new organ sounds arent cutting it for me, I need a real B3".  Is that your organist dreaming about the good old days, or does he have a valid point?

Agreed MT_Spiffy.

These keyboard companies are spending big loot trying to get these keyboards to have an authentic rhodes sound.  Why, if you had the real thing, would you then go and sell it.


Lots of cats besides Stevie wonder still using the rhodes in live production.

and thats just off the top of my head.


Its not that you have to go out and "buy" a rhodes.  You can get a keyboard that does that.  But if by some some means you ended up with one ( especially a  stage rhodes) then  you just gots  to keep it.


Its like saying I got a yamaha full size grand piano, but I sold it because I wanted triton LE.    Just don't make no since to me.

I've got a Mark II, suitcase model im thinking about selling.  ITs a 73 key.  Its got a little cosmetic damage, but it sounds like a million bucks.
