It amazes me how often this topic comes up ... Wow ...

the Word of God says ...

2 Corinthians 6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate saith the Lord and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you.

2 Corinthians 6:14
.... for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteiousness?  And what communion hath light with darkness??

I realize that we can't totally isolate ourselves from the world and we are not suppose to ... we have got to be a witness ... However what fellowship do we have in tha "Night Clubs" ...

And if its all about tha "money" .... we have to remember what the WORD says about the LOVE OF MONEY .... I believe if you have a talent use it for God's Glory ... you have no business in the night club ..

Come on Now!!!

:D Praise the Lord!!!!! I really can't tell anyone what they should do and I'm not tryin to. But I personally believe that since I am a musician for the Lord, then I'll be that 100%. In First Corinthians 10:21 it says Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. But, I'm just Crazykeys. You don't have to take my word in acount. :D  8)

Elaine is 100% correct.  Musicians have to maintain their own integrity and "ministry" when it comes to your craft.  A musician, bottom line, is an accompliment to the words that are being brought forth.  Whatever words they are, the music only supplies the mood, tone, and overall ambience.  So, if unless the singer is singing "Lord, Make Me Over", it would not make sense for a gospel musician to be in a club setting.

Now, it is only fair that I say this:

There are musicians out there that are simply, "musicians".  They will play anything and everything that they can because of the craft that they have developed.  There are quite a few musicians that LOVE gospel music, not because they listen to the ministry to apply to their life, but because it simply sounds nice.  (Yes, you can listen to gospel music because it sounds nice.)  So, actually, it would sound silly to tell someone that plays gospel music they are wrong for playing in a club when they don't consider THEMSELVES as a devoted part of a particular ministry.

I believe this last statement had to be said so the people of GOD are not easily bamboozled =o)

If you feel comfortable playing in a night club, then go for it.  But if you don't feel comfortable in that setting, then it is probably wrong for you and you need to get out and stay out of there.
Real musicians play in every key!!!

My personal opinion is that it really depends on the environment and atmosphere of the club, in addition to the music that is coming forth in that environment.  I consider myself to be a gospel musician and I am also a jazz musician in my own right.  I don't really consider playing jazz in certain venues to be out of the will because jazz is simply another way in which I can use my talents productively.  I guess its also a little different because jazz clubs are different kinds of nightclubs.  But nevertheless, I look at jazz musicians like coltrane who was wrote jazz songs in dedication to God - A Love Supreme - if I am correct.  Even more, I can think of plenty of R&B songs that are clean and wholesome.  is the performance of such music wrong?

Anyway, I believe in hearing other opinions and being corrected if I am out of place.  What do you all think about the jazz element, or the R&B element when the lyrics are not about anything too secular, or when the club atmosphere is wholesome and more about the artform than anything else.

Peace And Blessings!!!

AnointedHands did bring up an excellent point.  All music is not "devil" music if you can really break it down.  I know Earth, Wind, & Fire is a group you can consider.  They have songs that uplift spirits not just from a spiritual standpoint, but they feel that it's not a good way to go around life feeling down, depressed, and stressed.

And of course, there are clubs out there that bring for a positive atmosphere as well.  John P. Kee talks about his club at his church and I know if I'm ever in Charlotte, NC I wanna go to it.

Everyone knows what music can do and what power it has even though it doesn't have any tangible power.  The question is this:  Is your spiritual level strong enough to resist?

Well as for me. When i started to play I told God for him only. But, that me. All that has been said before are all aspects of the truth. Here is another to condsider.
Do you understand the power of music? Not only do it have the power of deliverance(Sauls eveil spirits), invoking the presance of God(priets could'nt stand), warfare(the walls of Jericho, and other battles of Joshua and David) annoucments(Revelation) and etc.

Music is just as powerful as the check this out .......THE TOUNGE!!

Why? it all points to the intent of it purpose. Like my bother said music is not the inherit evil but, the purpose of it's creation. R&B, Gospel, Blues, Rock, Altenative, Metal etc. are styles not inherently evil. Why is gospel music sounding like R&B bad? Because it sounds like it? Do the WORDS tell a different story? Now those of us who are spiritual should be able to tell the differents.
Now here is the hard one Jazz, no words. Now what!
Answer: know who you are listening to. John Coltrane s good he sought a spiritual level in his music. But, not every musician plays for that level.

So the question once again is for whom and what do server?

I have a little different thoughts on this subject.
Some people do not work other jobs and and they
expect their Music to feed them.  Most of the time it does not.
So if you do not have another job  and need to eat what
else can you do?

I have worked with numerous musicians that WILL NOT
WORK a regular day job.  Also when you play with other
musicians you do gain more Music knowledge.  I have
been to a lot of affairs that were not a church function and
there were musicians there that do play in church and do
play at other functions.  You do have the option as to whether
the place is to wild for you to except that particular  job.
Then just do not accept.

Can A person play a love song and still be saved, I think so.
But that is just my opinion.

Now if you are going to the other place swearing and coming
home falling down drunk well that is another story…….. 8O  8O

NO NO, You Cannot play at Night Clubs
« Reply #10 on: April 23, 2005, 06:42:12 PM »
No No No, you cannot play at night clubs. The gift that God has given you is not Yours from the get-go. You personally don't have a right to use His Gift but only for His purpose. What would that say to unbelivers? You are called to seperation from the world, not conformation.

You cannot at one moment play at church then the next at the club.  That affects your witness. Not only about people, what would God say!!!

You should read Junita Bynum's book call My Spiritual Inhertence. In it, you will understand more about your gifting and that you just can't do any and everything.

In the current season God has us in, the body of Christ and Musicans must uphold living holy. The next time you think about playing somewhere, ask yourself if it is really something that God would have his approval on.  (I said all of this in love)

I think this,
If while you are playing the patrons are praising the Lord....go ahead.  But I have not ever been to clubs where that happens.  Most things that are praised is the wine, women, etc.....

If on the other hand you want to minister to patrons inside / outside the club I would say go ahead but do not go alone.  Remember where two or more are gathered together!  This will help in fighting the temptations that WILL come against you while you are there.

Peace and Love.....Till the day He parts the clouds.

Me personally, I don't see anything wrong with playing at a club, as long as you use discretion. A christain should not play at a club if there is sinful worldy music being played there THAT NIGHT, if the song that they (the Christian) is playing is not gospel or an ok secular song, or if people are sinning "to" your song. When I say sinning to a song, I mean bumping and grinding and other erotic forms of dancing. Also it depends on the total atmosphere of the club. Are people perpetually cursing? stuff like that. I don't think that it counts if they serve alcoholic drinks because thats common just about everywhere. Not to advocate drinking, I'm just saying that if the club's purpose is not drinking, but they do sell drinks, I wouldn't hold it against them.
Since I'm turning 18, I actually would like to sing/play at a jazz or poetry club, but I'm looking for one that's a restaurant. The kind where people just sit, eat and watch, and if they dance, they always dance respectibly. It'll be hard to find a club like that but if I find one I'll do what i can. Of course, I have no problem singing at a gospel club or retaurant either. I'm keeping this on a "what I find" basis. Right now I sing at a gospel restaurant in the making, and I like it.

I am VERY disappointed at this thread.  Very

The answer is no.  If You are saved, you CAN'T play in a nightclub.  Don't straddle the fence.  Choose who you'll serve and do it

100%

All this wishy-washy, half-n-half christianity is ridiculous.  You CAN'T play in tha club on saturday night, then play in church sunday morning.  It doesn't work that way.

And I'm not the preachy type (well....actually I am a preacher, but you know what I mean  :D ), but this is one area where there's no middle ground.  There's no compromise.

For the Lord, or secular......
