Sup Jeremy...man I really enjoy your playin. My favorite of your performances is the Donald Lawerence "bible stories" video. Man you were fiyah! Your pocket was extremely tight. I wanted to know how you tuned your toms, whehter you tuned them to specific intervals or not? And what snare did you use and the head that was on it?

My man InThePocket "I Like That Name Yo! Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan Try-City days HuH!!!!!! 8O well i tend to tune my drums in 3rd's all the way around, but when im doing jazz gigs my first tom is usually tuned higher than the other ones (jazz set-up is 2 10' inch toms and my 14' inch on legs), but for sessions you can go to my website at jeremyhaynes.net and see my studio set-up. And theirs also some music from my up coming CD on the "Home" page and my "Favorite Drummers" page u have to wait a couple of seconds but it's woth the wait "I Promise!" And as far as the snare heads i was using a coated pinstripe, but not anymooooooore :D  it's all about the emporer X now. Go get one u'll Love It. Holla!  8)

Jeremy, all I can say is that the new Marvin Sapp album was really a blessing. You really shows what it means to be a modern day minstrel. The I can't even start to imagine what's it like to work with Isreal and Aaron, but my question is what was it like working with Javier Solis? I have both the Isreal and Cece Winans dvd and this cat seems to have such a percussive mind.

Soulnomad Sup Kid? 8) If you want to continue to use a clear emporer for your snare, then i suggest that  yoooooouuuuu  "WAIT FOR THE VIDEO, AND I'LL SHOW YOU THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CLEAR EMPORER & THE EMPORER X!!! :P  :P  :P  :P " ,you thought i was going to give you my secrets huh OOOOOOOOOOH NOOO MY BROTHA!! U GOTTA WAIT ON DA VIDEO!!!!(LOL) just kiding my advice is that you tune it to whatever sounds good to you, never tune ur drums based on what other people think, "Who Cares What They Think!!" DO YOU!!!!!! :D

Jeremy man i had the priviledge to pick up the new Marvin Sapp Album and i must say the musicianship on this album is awesome the message thru song is awesome...my favorite has to be Be Exhalted. I remember a few months ago Jonathan Dunn had a live concert at our church here in Ohio and he was saying how Marvin would have a couple songs on his album that he wrote.....I was hoping that it would be that one and it was! man you guys blessed that song and are truly an inspiration to me and to gospel music.... ive had the honor to play with aaron lindsay wayyyy back in the day.....how was it to be in the studio atmosphere with such a blessed musician as he?

Or are they the Special Recording hats?

.... I am partial to 12" hats, (I use the AA Mini Hats from the other Ziljian brother, LOL.) And I must say the Special Recording have a smoother sound. than mine.

Do they even make the S.R.s anymore?  I haven't seen those in a while.  Do you use them main hats, SabianKnight?

The A Custom Mastersound (12") sound pretty smooth, as well.

Yo Jeremy,

Thanks for being a true professional--courteous and responsive to the various questions that are coming your way.  I wished that more of the professional musicians within Gospel music had your patience and personality.  You are a true inspiration and God is blessing you for it--from the O'Neal twins to Israel H. and the various artists in between. Continue to allow the Lord to bless you.  Peace.

Yes I use the 12" AA Mini Hats as my man hats. And they sound great recorded. Like a hot knife thru butta'....

These are the same model hats that John Blackwell use back in 2000 Modern Drummer cover days. Prince's Hit and Run Tour, Rainbow Children as well as on his own DVD. John also had a set of 10" AA Minis mounted on an x-hat on his left above the 12"s back then.

I an wanting to get a hold of those. The drummer at NDCC uses a pair on an x-hat on the right-side.

God Bless jhayes i saw you on gospelchops.com and i think everyone agrees with me that the words you said touched my soul. because as a musician its frustrating a lot. You try to get better and practice to the break of dawn and you try to reach that level, but you find your self stuck, but something you said that made an impact to me, is that to put God above all things and that made me realize above my instrument too, God has to be above that, so God could flow through me. I'm glad that you are an open person and willing to teach, you're a rabi for musicians not only drums but for all.
Keep walking in the lord and God bless the talent he has given you.
