It is NOT COOL:
*to lock the organ because kids want to play on it
Neither is it cool to have to spend a lot church $$$ repairing the organ because the organ was unlocked and kids wanted to play it and didn't know what they were doing and broke a part that you can't get anymore and the only tech that can fix it charges $200 to come out and tell you what's wrong and he's not going to be able to get the part and fix it for 2 weeks and there is a special service coming up this weekend and you have to spend more church $$$ to rent an organ for the 2 weeks it's down, and the minister and the church treasurer is wondering WHY WAS THE ORGAN UNLOCKED IN THE 1ST PLACE!!!???
And this is the week you were going to ask for a raise.... 8O :?
In response to this, the correct action is:
When you see a child moving their way up to the instruments, then, obviously, it INTRIGUES them. We have so many kids in our church, and they all wanna learn to play something. Bass, keys, organ, drums, whatever. And when you have this type of interest in something,
THEN YOU TEACH THEM!
I lock the organ ONLY because I"m instructed to do so. We leave everything open, drumsticks laying around, open organs, monitors, amps, and we do it because we have parents at the church that have no problems with me or the M.O.M. showing THEIR kids some discipline. There is such a thing as discipline, isn't there?
Let's be honest. You are not going to live forever. You're probably not going to be playing for a particular church forever. Wouldn't it make sense to go ahead and train them, NOW, how to PROPERLY play and maintain the instrument?
(Now, we do have problems, and we have to call out the organ specialist to fix it every once in a while. Of course, it's because I play like a maniac and the church takes the music ministry very seriously, and since the church tithe like they are supposed to...)
