I recieved an email asking how I began to play. Here is a little information about me. My name is Myron J. Feltner Jr. I'm from the illustrious city of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida which is near Miami. I have been playing piano since I was 7. I've been playing the keyboard and organ in church since I was 10. I began taking private lessons at 8 from Ernest W. Webster. Those lessons included reading music in classical and some jazz. It was the first lady of my church who payed for me to start taking lessons. However, my parents paid for the rest of my lessons for the next 8 years and they weren't cheap. As far as church music, I tried to pick up as much on how to play as possible. Nobody would really sit down and show me anything. Then I met this guy named Julius Blue, a child prodigy from Winter Haven, FL. I was on this church trip to one of our sister churches and he was on the organ. I was 12 and he was 16 but he played like he was 32. I was so amazed by his playing and after church service I asked him to show me some things. He did and that began a good friendship. Everytime I seen him he would show me something. I still kept playing in church. I was mainly listening to John P. Kee and Hezekiah Walker and Lovefellowship. I then attended Sawgrass Springs Middle School. There I was the accompanist for the string orchestra under the direction of Jeanne Halberg. There I recieved medals and trophies for playing the piano. I then attended Northeast High School for 2 years where I focused on basketball more. I later stopped taking lessons. Then I auditioned for Dillard Center for the Arts. They accepted me and I began my continued matriculation there starting in 11th grade. There I met other church musicians and a jazz pianist. They really helped with my growing even though I later found myself progressing past them. Here is where I discovered perfect pitch. I didn't have it before but I now possesed it and knew enough to teach others. I could now replicate anything I hear exactly on the first try. (reply if you would like to know more). I played for the chorales, gospel choirs and jazz band there. I graduated Dillard and began to attend Bethune-Cookman College(LETS GO WILDCATS!). I am currently a student of concert pianist Dr. Karen Walwyn-Mack. My horizons have expanded beyond gospel music to jazz and classical. My technical ability is mostly due to my classical background and the chords I use is because of my jazz background. I am a freelance musician, songwriter, composer, and I also transcribe gospel, jazz and r&b music.(Email me for info on trancriptions at
mjfeltnerjr@yahoo.com) I am not at learngospelmusic.com necessarily to learn, but really to teach and give to the world what God has blessed me to learn. I am working on a CD and an instructional video. I also have an ear training course called "EarMAX". I am gladly open to questions, requests and always willing to help. Hammondman and 4hisglory to help you guys out, I will try to leave a "RUN OF THE DAY" and "CHORDS OF THE DAY" and any other helpful bits. I apologize for the long bio.
