Yeah looks like it. I might as well find a waffle house back on the east coast and wait tables.
I'm not finished playing

C'mon now!!!    When u get on your organ 2 practice, u gotta have a mindset 2 wanna accomplish somethin' musically everytime.  Be it speed, accuracy in scales, stamina in takin' long solos without your hand hurtin', finger stretching 2 reach better chords, or whatever the task u would like 2 accomplish...   U practice 2 make your self better, not perfect.  Once u have practiced material that u were strugglin' within short-term memory, it is then transferred to long-term memory.  Once it is in long-term, it takes little or no mental effort @ all 2 execute.

We are all competitive in spirit.  Not against each each other, but 4 each other 2 be better @ what we do...  St. Louis has such a rich history of professionalism & excellency in music...

The promising part of it is this...  The youth of today, and I'm in reference 2 adolesence, are ingulfed & at awe at what we do, and these kids are saying within themselves the exact same thing that we said within ourselves when we were 5 years old...  "Wowww!!!, I wish I could play like that!!!"   that's where the fire come in & we are telling ourselves to get it right or don't get it @ all, u know???

I have to take a trip to St. Lou.  We in Detroit just don't know what we're missing.  Y'all got it.  I'm just thankful for this forum, and I wished that I would have joined earlier.  It's been a pleasure reading everyone's comments, and I can't wait to meet and jam with all of you in heaven if I don't get a chance to here on earth.

I agree with you.  I've been listen to Butch play since I was 5-7 years old.  I knew back then, music iz supposed to sound the way he hears it.  I credit bucth for my style of playing.  And for people to hear me play and say, "Man, I thought Butch was on the organ!!!", tells me that I'm finally getting where I need to be in music.  Let it be known & said that I play in the style of Christopher "Butch" Woodie!!!

Butch, if you are readin' this forum, "Much love & respect to you, man"

There is no better way to put it fingerz.  Let it be known that I'm no where near BUTCH or BEN a.k.a. FINGERZ but while I'm on playing on the organ I often think... what would Butch do right here? So like fingerz I too play under the influence of Butch!

WELL ACTUALLY I WOULD HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH PEOPLE AND THEY WOULD SAY STUFF LIKE. "IT'S SO MANY PEOPLE THAT SOUND JUST LIKE BUTCH." AND IT'S ALMOST LIKE IT COMES NATURAL FROM ME TO SAID THAT NO ONE IN THIS WORLD SOUNDS JUST LIKE BUTCH. EVAN THE VERY FEW PEOPLE THATS BETTER THAN HIM STILL DON'T SOUND LIKE HIM. AND I MEAN OF COURSE IF THE YOUNG NEW JACKS LIKE CORY,MYSELF,BENNY,JEREAL,ETC LISTEN TO HIM AND ALMOST STUDY HIM OF COURSE WHEN ARE GOING TO PICK UP SOME OF HIS MATERIAL. LIKE FOR EXAMPLE. I HAVE BEEN SEEIN' BUTCH HIT CHORDS WITH HIS FEET SINCE I CAN REMEMBER. BUT I JUST STARTED LEARNING HOW TO HIT CHORDS WITH THE PEDALS. AND IT TAKES ALOT OF WORK. BUT IT'S JUST LIKE (im speaking by faith now) IM GOING TO PICK UP ALOT OF THINGS FROM HIM BUT I'M STILL NOT GOING TO SOUND ANY NEAR HIS LEVEL OF PLAYING. BUT I WISH I DID SOUND LIKE HIM THOUGH. I AIN'T EVAN GONE FRONT.

I will tell you all this, and I am from the Lou...Butch is the man..period..But even with that, all of you I have heard play at different musicals/services/concerts or whatever and I enjoy hearing what it is that YOU do...Not only that, but no matter how much any of us try, we will never sound just like Butch..Kinda like this, we all have heard Kirk Massey, before he passed away, but no matter how hard any of us tried to sound like him we couldnt..Well definetily not me cause I was strictly a drummer...But no disrespect to any of my brothers in Christ on this board or any other musicians...Butch has been playing this way since he was a grasshopper...If you listen to all of ther "oldheads"(lol) they all have their own unique sound...Fingerz, Cory, Catron, Chalis, you all have your own sound...I can pretty much pick who it is that playin when I come in, by what it is that you're playing...You all are getting the torches that others have carried for so long...What to do is take all of your influences and learn from all of them...There was a guy that moved to TX a few years ago because he didnt have his own style/sound..I dont know whats going on with him now, but he walked, talked, dressed, and played just like Butch...Thats a nono!!!!Who can really respect a follower who is not at all their own man??But enough with that...Yall keep on getting better and better..I'm not going to front either...i have learned alot from Butch..Alot..But I also have learned from people like Malcolm Speed, Larry Johnson, Darryl Black, Kirk Massey, Too, and even some of you all that are on here...So I just use everything that I know and apply it...

p.s.I got to say it..BigBill...U r funny..

You are TOTALLY right, BUT it doesn't stop there... you can learn from ANYBODY. Be it beginners or masters. Not their exact chords or riffs pursay, but their interpretation. Which truthfully, is what makes a person develop their OWN unique style.

Because there are no rules to how one sees music their is a limitless number of styles from EVERYWHERE to all draw from to create the bigger picture.

Am I making any sense?  :?

Cory, I feel you...There was so much more that i wanted to say, and sometimes it's hard to say these things cause of the way someone will take it...But I come straight out and say it...I remember one time I told butch that I wanted to be able to play like him, and he gave me this look like I was going to the hot place with gasoline drawls on or something...He then told me that he wanted me to be better than him...Which I agree with him...It's kinda like this, if you were to go to a church and I was playing the drums, you would know it was me, cause I have all different gospel influences, from Joel Smith, my dad(if you have ever heard him), Jeremy Haynes, Mark Colenburg, Rob Woodie, and even some of the guys that are playing that are coming up...I dont mock them, but I hear them...I want to lock the pocket like a pair of AppleBottoms on JLO and put my own signature on things..But I appreciate brothers/sisters like you all that can agree with things that are said like this..God Bless you all..
