I was told that you are considered a professional drummer when you start getting paid for what you do.

you are most definitely on your way. its true, a pro drummer gets payed to play. i believe that you are talking about being endorsed and touring and magazine covers. well, you have to be a versatile drummer and have a lil bag of trix. most important of all, you HAVE TO BE ABLE TO KEEP IT IN THE POCKET. i men, chops guys get notice, but the pocket player will always get the job. i am a drum/percussion tech for arthur thompson. he is an endorser of remo, paiste, dw, and about to be with pro-mark. he wsa just doing his thing and he met ricky lawson who hooked him up with remo and paiste that day. they were at the namm show and they signed him right there. just keep on it and it will happen if you believe.......

In being a professional, you must remember too that people are paying for a product. My idea of being professional is not only getting paid. To me it's also about attitude. I know many so called professionals that get to gigs late or walking in church whenever they want but still expect to get paid. So to me it's also how you carry out your business that makes you a professional.

I the business world, there are many Trifling Professionals..as in the music world. For example if you're the MD for a group and you set a normal rehearsal time and you're always late..but the band is there on time. That's unprofessional. So it's not all about the money
