THE THING YOU HATE MOST ABOUT PLAYING DRUMS???????

One thing I dislike about playing drums is playing with other musicians who don't have or share the same passion you do about playing.  For example, when our praise team is learning new material, I feel like I'm the only one who goes home and listens to the CD well enough to reproduce it during service.  I'm not saying that you have to be an exact duplicate of the recording artist, because you do want to add a little personality of your own, but at least you should be in the same neighborhood.  It's very frustrating playing songs correctly when no one else is.  You kind of stand out as being over aggressive when in actuality you're playing the song the way it's supposed to be played.  Another thing I dislike is when other musicians try to force and establish the tempo of songs when that's my job.  Sometimes our keyboadist will start a song too fast, only to have to slow it down before the vocals can come in.  That could have been avoided if he let me do my job.  Lugging around drums and hardware without help is always the number 1 complaint.  Hopefully, I wasn't too off base with my response.

Hey man I know how U feel about lugging all that equipment around.
Another thing I cant stand is playing in a room that is not sound friendly (high roof, brick walls, echos, etc.). And because of that u have to play extra soft because if u hit the drums any louder it will drown everything out.

1. Playing any song in 3/4 time signature. You know the beat... boom tap tap boom tap tap. Absolutely hate that beat.

2. Playing with a pianist whose ear is not that good and they have to play all the notes until they find the key of the song... HATED IT!!!

3. I know you said 1 or 2, but I hate playing quartet music. That monotonous 4/4 drives me crazy; especially when they get to the drive of the song and do it for like 20 minutes... HATED IT!!!
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.

i hate when u in service and the organist or md tells u to stay in the pocket if u do a simple fill, but they do runs and killer chords throughout the entire song. thats not fair. lugging equipment is the number 1 worst thing. and when u do gigs wit a community choir, some of the churches drumkits are so horrible. even if u bring a snare and some cymbals it still anit cool. in my city we got a top ten list of churches wit the worst kits to play on. i dont mean bad, i mean horrible kits!!! like a folding chair for the throne, twigs for sticks, busted heads, thick hi hat bottoms for a crash, no hit hats at all, no cymbal stands, etc.

Yeah young sirs I definitely know about the lugging equipment complaint. My brother is a keyboardist so I tease and tell him about that all the time...
My biggest complaint is when at church they hear a song and their clap is outside this planet and the drummer has to get the train on the right track..then everybody looks at you thinking that your wrong...lol

Man the only thing I hate about playing the drums is LUGGING ALL THAT EQUIPMENT AROUND!!
All of the other musicians have it easy but the drummer has it the hardest. I recently did a gig and the bass player and i kinda got into it a little cause he got impatient while i was setting up telling me to hurry up. Well i told him to give me a hand or don't say anything at all!! After the gig we both laughed at the situation

Come on ya'll. Don't tell me that you don't get callouses...I hate that man.

Also, one thing I hate. I am all for experimenting with different scales during practice and rehersals, but when your bassist is experimenting DURING WORSHIP is when things get bad!!!!

I hate lugging equipment ofcourse.
Also, when all of the singers, keyboardists, bassist, guitarists are looking at you setting up your kit like "umm, hurry up" LOL I HATE THAT. They just plug in a Mic, or pull their amp out and plug in. For drummers, we have to get EVERY CYMBAL positioned just right, and if we don't, its like playing a bass without the E string(was gonna say G String LOL).

What about when you hit Pastor Joeybigbooty in the head wit a stick and he plays it off like it didn't hurt ...

What about when that little high hat piece gets loose and your stuck playing a whole song with an open high hat and if you even think about playing that wanna be ride/crash cymbal you finna get looks.

What about when your foot pedal gives out for good n' a youth ministry came cross country to see how you do worship.

what about when the resononant side of your snare breaks n' it sounds like you doin a bob marley reggae set .

What about when you forgot your floor tom mount.

what about when you popped a callouse n' you bleedin on the set.

What about when your sound man turns everything on EXCEPT YOUR KICK MIC in a 10,000 square foot auditorium.

What about when you no it wasn't your fault and everyone in bands looking at you like you messed up the timing. LOL

I hate playing on a set with no bottom heads on it. That is so sto' front!!!

What about those dang wood chips. Ya'll know what I'm talking about... the wood chips from your sticks are always all over the floor by the set. It looks like the chipmunks had an annual banquet that you didn't know about. The janitor's always looking at you like you're the junkiest person in the world. LOL

Well what about when people come from different churches to play ONE SONG and bring enough equipment for a 5-piece percussion ensemble to play.

And then when they get done playin' they don't evan bother settin' the home kit back up. And you spend the rest of the service settin' everything up.

Or when drumsticks just pop up missin'. Or another drummer comes and ACCIDENTLY takes your 6" zildjian A custom. And you have to wait 4 months b4 their church visits again.
