Hi,

I not sure if you were asking for the same or the name of this scale. If your asking for the name of the scale, then I would have to say

What is the augmented for $500

Wrong,  8O  I was just throwing that out there for you. The C Augmented scale is actually
C D# E G Ab B

C D E F G# A C is just the C major scale with a #5.
Now here is one for you. I'll give you a hint it is a very common one used but because of the key I have written it in will throw alot of key players that don't know all of their scales.... have fun...

B D E F Gb A B  = what scale?

God Bless,
jayzee

This scale looks like a b blues scale. Although the Gb makes it look wrong.

JayZee wouldn't an augmented scale have the tonic as augmented chord or are there certain permeters that I may not be aware of?

Think of it this way

Scale Degrees Conventional Naming
Each note of the scale or scale degree has a conventional name. The most important scale degree is the tonic; the second most important is the dominant. The names of the other scale degrees reflect their relationship to the tonic or dominant.

I: Tonic
ii: Supertonic
iii: Mediant
IV: Subdominant
V: Dominant
vi: Submediant
viio: Subtonic or Leading Tone

Or refer to music theory at www.gospelmusictrain.com/home.php

Hope that helps.....

God Bless You All,
jayzee

Now with that being said, we know that the C Augmented scale is
C=1  D#=2  E=3  G=4  G#=5  B=6 . Lets build our basic triad which would now be an augmented triad.

Chord-tones = R.,  3.,  #5.,

Chord symbols= C+5,  C+,  C(#5)

Augmented Triad=C  E  G#

I wonder what the name of this scale should be using the proper terminology of the structure for scales. I would speculate that it maybe a variation of an arabian type of scale. But if anyone out there has seen this scale before let us know.
Jayzee Thanks for the info.

this scale is a mixture of 2 possible scales. The A harmonic minor, or it can be a C harmonic minor with a perfect 3rd.  Which would make this what we call in Theory an Exotic scale. Possible options, some form of a persian, or Middle eastern scale( Arabic, Etc..) There is no correct terminology for ther scale because of the possible make up of it derived from 2 possible scales. Thats what make it Exotic. This is a trick question and  technically, Cant be answered with just one possible choice.  another possible option for the scale is a Cmajor scale with a raised 5th! so you have 3 possible scales you  could use to derive it from. Anyway this is a scale theory that is soo simple, if you dont look at it from a simple point of view you make it harder than what it is. But you have to know theory. I have masters in music so this comes easy for me. But everything in music contrary to popular belief dont have names. If you know anything about modes of the scales, then you know that there are modes that have no names they are just listed as modes1,2,3,4 of the scales especially when you get up into the exotic types, (pelogs, persian, Kumio etc..) all exotic types. Music is never ending and always evolving, our music forefathers left the blue print its up to us to explore and branch out to take it further. LEARN YOUR THEORY MUSICIANS!! life with an ear, and theory training the possibilities are limitless.

It is a C Lydian Scale

C Lydian is fourth mode of G Major scale

G - Major scale G A B C D E F# G

C Lydian C D E F# G A B C (G Major scale starting on 4th)

You would play a CMajor#4 chord but really you're in the key of G.

CE/ABDF# - CMajor#4 chord (nice sounding chord)

Another very valuable thing to remember is that this is when your relative fourths come into the picture.

C is the relative fourth of G
