« on: July 25, 2005, 01:22:46 PM »
Anyone have any ideas of 2 simple up to date songs that I can teach a beginning youth choir.  This choir is not in the city at all.  They had never heard anyone play preaching chords before 8O .  So I need some help........  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.   God Bless.

I am new to this board, and I think that it is extremely helpful.  I think that there are some great musicians on this board, and this is why I am seeking your help.

Hello,

Here are a couple of songs that I think are really awesome for a beginning choir and they are also really simple........

1. Here I am to worship..... Micheal W. Smith, Isreal Houghton, Hillsong and Salvador have all did this song really good....

2. Breath.... Micheal W. Smith also did this one and his CD?DVD Combo

3. Lord I give YOU my heart....

4. Friend of God ... Isreal Houghton

5. Magnify Jesus.... Willie Cain

I have chord charts for all of them if you need them as well..... hope that helps

God Bless You,
jayzee

I have so many songs in my head right at this exact moment for a beginning choir..I am pretty sure you have heard this and even thought this..But, make sure your choir is ready for some of the more up to date songs...Not trying to disrespect or anything, but something that is simple like "Write the Vision", or "Gods got a blessing"(2 chords through the whole song, for the most part)..Those 2 would actually be the first I would teach, for one they are powerful songs that are not hard at all to catch on to for any musician or psalmist..Secondly, it would probably make it easier on you to start off somewhat simple; they havent heard preachin chords??Man God Bless you in what you doing!!!Let him use you; I can only offer suggestions, but you should pray for the right songs...God Bless

Thanks, Mrpoppa.  Who sings those songs???

Well this is the update.  We sang "Because of who you are" & "Rejoice" Isreal.  They did excellent.  God got all of the glory.  The people were shocked.  The kids were scared at first to sing something new, and I explained to them, that was the reason I was there to bring in something new that would  draw the youth to this church.  We worked for about 3 hours on those songs, worked and worked and worked.  Broke it down, made it plain, explained what the words meant, what they are saying to people.  When I teach a song, I minister to people as well (I am a minister) but I take every chance I get because all of the "corruption" in music these days to teach what the words mean in the songs.  So the kids were excited afterwards to sing Sunday.  They sounded great.  The pastor was really happy that they did something up to date.  I was happy that God got the glory in the whole thing.

Let me explain "corruption."  The enemy, devil, whom ever you want to call it tries to come in and use people to play music.  You have people playing R.Kelly & all type of things in the church.  I have heard a "minister of music" play M. Jackson's Beat it during the offering. Yes, I know it was MJ, because I use to be in the world.  I asked him after service, uuummm, you couldn't think of anything else but M.J., and he just looked at me and said my bad it won't happen again.  However it did happen again.  He turned Paul Morton's "Let it Rain" into a Prince Concert.  He is the type that I am speaking of.  When God is no where in what you are doing and you are just up there because you want to be seen and heard.  The ME attitude.  He can not teach parts, and the choir sounded like a  hot mess every week when they sang.  He is the type of musician that will not allow anyone to touch the instruments unless he is there (I know this sounds crazy, however stuff like this happens more than you think it does)  These are the people that are corrupting music.  Faking it,  putting on a show, spot light always on them, has to lead every song, tries to bully people into respecting them.........Enough.  I think I have made my point.  I like this board because there are a lot of people the exact opposite of this type of person.

Gods got a blessing is by Lonnie Hunter, I think and Write the vision is by Norman Hutchinson....I may be wrong, but someone on here will correct me if I am wrong...I am however very happy to hear that God got the glory through the ministry of song...
