Wish I could've been there.  I've been hearing a lot of people say that Chris is nice but that he sounds like Calvin and LaDell.  "He did grow up listening and watching them though."

jfunky is correct, Chris sound alot like the both of them. You must remeber those are the two hottest drummes his dad had playing for him. They poured constantly into his life, and now the fruit is manifesting. Also its not a bad combo, being that Calvin and Ladell both are tight.

I must Disagree,You used the term "HAD",He did come up under both of them both they've been gone for a while,And it is True that He was Nurtured as we all are by them,But he is Maturing and playing things his way,No doubt they have given him the foundation,But now he's building his own house. But that just my Opinion, I checked him out for a week. :)

Man I have every album that chris kee plays on and I think he has his own style. It's true that you can hear Ladell and calvin in his playing and you should seeing that he played along side them. But he still has his own style. Listen at calvin, you can hear marvin mcquitty in his playing but yet he still has his own style. It's like this; LaDell has laid the foundation for chris and chris has put his thing down on top of that.

Youre right chris has played under the Influences of Calvin And Ladell. But you have to admit he has his own style. How do i know? Our church is under the affiliate of New Life Chrisitian Center so I know John, Chris , and Michie and deep down Chris is more amazing then alot of people think. Lets just say he keeps it under the table!

What most of you'll are forget is that we all learn from someone, I don't care who you are..... someone will hear somebody in your playing. We all learn from the master. Anyway all of our playing style came from warren baby dodds if you know your history  Calvin and ladell is not bad guy to be like playing wise.

da_drumma, yea i know Chris as well. I am from Charlotte we hang sometime. I will admit he is alot more amazing than alot of people think. And as lovmydrums stated and so did I  in so many words Calvin and Ladell is a sweet combo. To keep this individual nameless, but they poured somethings into me, but more into a mutual friend. So now that I pratice with our mutual friend you can still here alot of the Professional drummer, even though he isn't exatcly there. Why, its because he took out time to seed into someone else life, now, this someone else is seeding into me. And personally its a fat combo. Because its a mix of cleanliness, pocket, timing, power, and so many more goodies. And then some of my own mix. Its nothing wrong with sounding like someone else just don't be an exact script.

Bottom line:  Everyone has influences, whether you are a professional, amateur or hobbyist.  It's what you do with those influences that sets you apart from everyone else.  Although you may develop your own "style", there are numerous instances in which you will hear bits and pieces of those influences in some of the fills, grooves or accents (even if it is not intentional).

Closing statement: I think that Chris is a great drummer!  He must be doing something right, because he's getting a lot of press around these parts.
