If its my kit then i'll retune it.  If it is a musician tha I know, i'll ask if I can tun it.  But if it is a place that I am unfamiliar with than I will probably just play cymbals and snare with no fills.

When I play on a set out of tune, most of the time(if i don't have time to tune them for whoever ) I'll just stick strickly to the pocket and do must of my tricks on the snare and cymbals.

8O Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaah Money! i've been there many of times, normally i would ask but if the guy is a"HATER" i just figure out which tom sounds the best and hit that one or ones while i'm playing, thats the challenge to be able to play through that crap :x . But then after the first song the guy realizes who i am and says to me,(HUMBLY :? ) "Hey man i didnt reconize you, it's ok if you tune my drums!" but by then i tell him "It's OK! I'm almost done now!"   So when i come to your church don't be looking at me all funny 8O  when i ask "Do you mind if i tune your drums!" :D Peace!

This may be a dumb question, but how would you know that the kit is out of tune, when the heads are loose or are y'all talking about how it sounds?  I played at a church about a month ago and the snare was not tight and they did not have a key (which taught me to ALWAYS have a spare key on me because you just never know).  I asked the boy that normally plays for that church"what do y'all do?!?!"  he gave me a bible to put on the snare!!!!!!  I'm like what in the world is this going to do?!?!?!  Crazy.
