Rack Vs. Keyboard

I don't know much about studio production, but I am in the process putting together one. I am wondering if it is better, cost wise and ect., to buy a rack and midi controller keyboard rather than buying a whole keyboard like a MotifES?

Cost wise...Probably a midi controller and a rack...that's if you sequencing on the computer or a external recorder...and depending on then rack like the motif or fantom, they only a few hundred short of the actual board which contains the sequencer...So it can go either way...

I had to face a similar chioce...

I needed good quality sounds so I got the Motif RackES, and use it hooked up to a keyboard. The reason I didnt get the triton rack was because its like 300 more than the motif rack. if they were similarly priced, it would have been a harder decision.

I know a few people that use a rack module with a controller. The only difference is the programming/sequencing capabilities. A rack module may also be alot harder to navigate at first also. When you think about it all a rack module does is provide you with MIDI capable sounds. If you JUST want sounds a module is perfect. However, most keyboards are created for the musicians that do more than just play(produce, compose, etc.)
