I use it when I'm in church to practice E and A. I used to transpose out of those keys.

Sunday, I came sooo close to transposing, but then I refused to handicap myself like that since I plan on play the piano/keyboard for the rest of my life.

NO!!!,

THE LORD WANTS TO ELEVATE YOU TO HIGHER LEVELS. Relying on a transposer will cause you to be incompetent. Don't limit yourself. Learn all 12 keys so that your (unplugged) piano playing skills can match your Synthesizer/Workstation/electronic piano skills.

You may be asked to play at a place with only a piano and personal set ups are not allowed.

Don't settle, the bible says play skillfully & I'm sure the Seraphim are not in heaven pressing buttons to enhance their praise unto GOD!!!

Be blessed
Sing unto him a NEW song; play SKILLFULLY with a loud noise "Psalms33v3"

I agree.  I'm trying to learn now, and people that are showing me things say it's a crutch.  On those rare occasions I have to play at my church I may just because I'm not "there" yet, but at home I have no choice but to learn them all, and I'm trying.  Just gotta keep praying and practicing!

One thing I dont like is musicians who say I'm going higher and don't want to come out of the transpose or directors who say they are going higher and don't want to learn more complicated songs.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

Hey, sometimes we directors can be "rhythmically challenged"

But, I do understand what you're saying. So, I'm practicing, darn it.

Freeze. This is the LGM police.

Put your hands up and step away from the transpose button. I repeat . . . put your hands up and step away from the transpose button. Comply immediately and no one's musical future will be hurt.

Transpose
« Reply #12 on: September 13, 2005, 04:36:20 PM »
If U transpose U cripple yourself from learning 1000 s of chords in the 12 keys of life.  What will U do if there is no transpose button & a song is not in ( your )  key ? or a song changes keys ? Don't learn how 2 transpose. Learn how not 2 transpose.

Don't transpose learning to play in every key makes you a better musician.

I agree that while the transpose button can be a crutch, you don't want to get up on Sunday morning and sound like a train-wreck while you're still trying to learn the other keys.  So, would you prefer to use the transpose button NOW and practice on the other keys after church, or sound like a train-wreck to avoid using the transpose button.

If you sound like a train wreck don't use it as an excuse to transpose but use it as motivation to practice harder.
