What size or gauge to you prefer to use for four string bass

Our church bass needed some bass strings so I bought some yeasterday,I bought some D'Adderios XL medium gauge,.50-.105. They are pretty stiff and take a while to get used to. Being a guitarist they really rub my fingertips raw,but I don't know if the light gauge would be any better. We don't play the bass maybe twice on Sunday,and for practice and hour and a half a week.So They should hold up for at least six months with normal wiping,right? What gauge do you prefer?

Oh,the bass is Squire Precission deluxe,so the strings should be fine,I hope. The strings aren't buzzing anyway like they was.

Some strings can be a bit harder or easier on your fingers, or have more stiffness, depending on the core of the string, if it's steel and how it's wounded and what it's coated with. For example, I once baught some light gauge Bluesteels and they felt terrible to me, and then I used some Elixirs of a higher meidum gauge and the felt realy nice as did some medum gauge GHS Boomers I used. The string guage you describe sound like a medum gauge and should do very well on your bass. And D'Adario make some good srtings.

I heard that flatwounds are easier with finger rubs and less finger noise. Not as bright as roundwound, but it might fit your style. I've yet to try it, I am waiting on some flats that I just ordered.
