Funny- I was just thinking the same thing too- I was looking for a teacher or keys mentor- I'm new to the gospel keys thing- (Riverwest area).  I kinda gave up looking- just practicing/listening a lot.

Only think that I've purchased so far is the 300 page book by Mr. J Griggs.  I've downloaded  a number of video lessons from gospelkeyboard.com.  Only problem I find with that is that I watch more than I practice.

Can you guys/girls post how long you've been playing.  I've been at it for almost 2 years with about 8 months of lessons mixed in.  Lessoning to Jamal Hartwell (thinking about buying one of his DVD'S) shredding is a good way to learn and to move forward.  If you guys are game on finding a mutal place(church, resturant or some place to meet) to exchange info I'm game. We can message back and forth here until we are comfortable and let GOD lead us the rest of the way.

Playing keys? like 20 years, but not seriously until maybe a year or so ago.  I did have a couple small churches I played for through the years, but I never really had to dedicate serious practice, study, and theory time till now.  It's work, but fun.
Oh and I think I did find a teacher- have to call him again tonight to try to set something up- pray this works out!!!
Good idea about meeting eventually.  A church would be a good place.

Please let me know some additional resources in the city to help with my playing.  Also, I would love to get together as well, to shed and practice and learn.

one of the best resources in the city?  The library...I've found so many good books lately on keyboard technique.  The one on Capitol is particularly good.  Not to mention all the CD's you can check out- and play along with for a week.  8)

I meant resources as in people that can show other people what they know.  Some shedding time would be nice.  I've been looking for people who are learning how to play and love God for a long time here in Milwaukee.

getting together
« Reply #10 on: December 09, 2005, 06:58:12 PM »
Christmas is probably the busiest time of the year for church musicians, at least at my churches.  We could plan on getting together afterward maybe at the start of the new year.  That would be something spiritually refreshing to look forward to.
(BTW I meant the lib. on 74th/Capitol but they're all ok, you can order what you need and they can deliver it.) :)

It would be awesome!  Very refreshing.  Most people I've met don't show a lot of what they know, so it would be great if we can meet at a neutral location.

Hello, All

What church do you attend/play for?  I attend Agape Love (Lisbon & North Ave), the reason I'm asking is to see how close our churches are so if we do setup a practice/shed session.  Just had a revelation I have a 61 key casio keyboard that with todays technolgy we coud hook up multiple headphones and practice at a library or any given place.  Yes, it may be smart to wait until the holiday season has passed.  Keep in touch.

I go to Christian Faith Fellowship Church of God In Christ, however I live on 29th and Highland. If we meet, I would rather meet closer to my house than to go meet by my church.

I can't remember if I posted disparaging/frustrated comments about my church or choir- under cover of the Internet's anonymity- so I'll just decline to list my church.  Because I don't want to hurt anyone.

My friend in Riverwest graciously offered to "host" our group- she is in choir with me- she has a piano, we could bring any number of keyboards also.

you could email me at ivorygirl300@yahoo.com
