TROUBLED YOUTH
« on: May 12, 2006, 08:27:06 AM »
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE APPOINTED A MINISTRY TITLE, BUT THE ADULTS WON'T ACCEPT IT. I'M 15 AND I WAS APPOINTED YOUTH MINISTRY LEADER AND IT AS BEEN REVEALED TO ME AS TO WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IN THIS MINISTRY, AND I REALLY AM EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF OUR YOUTH AND I KNOW THAT WE'RE GOING SOMEWHERE. THE PROBLEM IS WE HAVE A LAZY SUPERVISOR. WE HAD PLANNED OUT THE YEAR OF 2006 IN OCTOBER OF 2005, AND NOT ONE THING ON OUR SCHEDULE IS YET TO BE DONE. I FEEL LIKE WE SHOULD CONTINUE TO MOVE ON WITH OR WITHOUT THERE SUPPORT. YET MY PASTOR SAID NOT TO GO OVER THERE HEAD. IM SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED. WAHT SHOULD I DO.

If your pastor has said not to go over your ministry leader's head, then you have no choice but to obey. I would try and go about things in a different manner, but hopefully obtaining the same result. For instance, whatever you may have scheduled for the remainder of the year, ask for assistance from your ministry head. Get their take on the idea or event and see what happens.

Or, ask your ministry head what their vision is for the youth of the church. If you want to grow a garden you have to start with one plant.

I pray this helps.

Tell your pastor about this lazy person. Do not let this person become an obstacle. I sometimes feel this way too. I want to do something and the people "above" me don't listen or don't care. So tell your pastor how you feel and give him your ideas. If he sees that you are serious about this, he will listen no matter how old you are. We as the youth have the same rights to speak up and give our opinions, ideas, suggestions, problems, as the people above us. It has been over 4 months and your youth hasn't done or finished anything. It is time for you to speak up. Pray and don't be afraid to talk. God bless you. :)

I forgot to tell you my story. Our youth leader cancelled almost every activity we had on our calendar. I never knew what was going on because he never told me when we had the meetings. Anyways the other young members of the youth, who are 12-14 told him that he was not a good leader for cancelling everything. They even went to the pastor, i think. The pastor must of have a good talk with him because now he is doing much better than before. So you see it does not hurt to speak up. Bless you. :)

 >:(   See this is the type of stuff that takes place on in the chruch that we (chruch folk tend to over look) just becuase some of us dont care or we feel that what diffrecne is it gonna make. Also on the sitution on you in the youth i know i'm dealing with the same problem but i not the youth minister or pastor i just a part of the youth.Well, on your situation i have read all the other advice and they have all gave u very good points such as:pray and dont under estimate the power of it, also talk to your pastor, fast, and seek god but my words of encouragment are to keep up the work becuase just like one person said this is nothing but a test that the enemy is taking u through. Do remember that nothing in life  every happen unless god allows to becuase he is preparing to  either be elevated or building your faith for a greater task or perparing you for other work in the church that may reqiure you to pray a little bit harder or just may require you to praise your way up out of it and seek god for more understandng.once again i say keep up the god work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God blessing i pray he rains on you.

God bless Ran ( keep me in your praaay. bro.stephan davis)

Don't know if I'm late on this but... I am one of my church's youth dept members & since the starting of 2006 we've gone ahead without our "lazy" supervisor. As far as we're concerned "The work of the Lord doesn't wait for lazy people so neither should we..."

God Bless.

I would have to say pray as well God knows your heart and what you want to do for him. I would suggest maybe seeing if your pastor would allow someone that understands the fire you have to get things done. I was dealing with this same situation I prayed and God made a way. Be blessed

What I would do to have a youth in my church with your fire and enthusiasm! ;D  I know things seem so fustrating to you.  DO your parents attend church with you?  Unfortunatly, sometimes we adults tend to not listen to the youth in the same way we listen to other adults.  Pray about your situation, look for an adult you can confide in about your ideas and thoughts.  Perhapse there are legitimate reasons why things are not getting done.  How do the youth feel?  Does it bother them that events are not happening?  I agree wit the others about respecting the authority in your church.  When you go to speak to them about your ideas and questions, don't forget to go to then in humility.  So important!  Think about the words you will use as they will make a difference in how you are listened to.  My dad always told me it's not so much what you say as it is how you say it.  Pray, pray, pray!   Be encouraged!   The Bible says to serve the Lord in your youth!  So go on baby!  ;D
God Bless!

You have to respect leadership no matter what, however, I would keep talking to pastor as well as the supervisor on a consistent basis until something gets done.

I feel ur pain.  I'm the vice-prez @ my church and we did the exact same thing.  Now many of our youth is planning to leave the assembly and seek membership other places, myself included.  We know this may not be the rite thihg to do, but we are tired of being overlooked and it seems like the only thing any of the adults care about is how short some girls' skirts are or how long the boys' hair is.  It doesn't make sense.  We cry out for help and they don't seem to listen or even care.  They say they been there and done that but that's not true, because it is hard tryna be saved in the 21st century especially being young.  We just want them to understand that we have problems, too and would like to be heard.

Being a youth ministry leader can be an overwhelming job. I understand because I did that once myself. Just continue to pray and ask the Lord for what He wants you to do and how He wants you to handle the situation. Remember,it's only a test, but continue to pray despite how you may feel about the other part of your leadership team.LOVE THEM ANYWAY BECAUSE LOVE CONQUERS A MULTITUDE
