Don't get discouraged because you can't play as good as __________(fill in the blank).  Are you taking any kind of lessons?  It would be beneficial to find someone to show you even a few basic chords and scales.  And listen to lots of music.  Even though some songs may not have a lot of guitar content in it, you can learn a lot from what the other instruments are doing and even com up with your own guitar parts.

First of all,I'd like to welcome you to LGM. Here is how I learned.I learned four chords,G,C,D,and E minor. I started on old hymns, you knowthe ones,Amazing Grace,Power in the Blood,I'll fly Away, all of these are very easy to play. Just take your time and go slow when learning. If you learn those chords along with those songs, you'll b on your way.

Get a decent guitar to start with..playing on a substandard instrument will stunt your development.  make sure the action or height and tension of the strings is not too high. I would suggest starting with .009 gauge strings.. Take lessons and learn at least some basic theory..it's cool to learn licks, but without some knowledge of music theory, it will take u a lot longer to come up with your own licks or write music.  just learning a lick is like someone giving you a phrase to say in another language..u can repeat it but u don't what it means or why u said it...learn to read music..i wish i had..it will help you...yeah u can play without it...but you'll be a lot better with it...and practice, practice, practice...
