What to do?
« on: January 29, 2006, 04:18:27 PM »
I am a very humble musician I thank God for all opportunities rather large or small. I also have the utmost respect for other musicians regardless of their skill level. I have been doing this for sometime now and have seen these things before but they always make me uneasy.  Here's my dilemma, I went to service and found one of our drummers has been forced out of a job, this only bothers me because he was the only drummer, (although not the most skillful but could hold a beat) they had for a couple of years. The other problem is that our new praise leader wants me to carry the entire service which will remove another drummer from a job.

The way our services work's we really need two drummers. I usually play for the deliverance part of the service which last about 2 hours  straight this is a very intense time of service the other drummer plays for the praise and worship choir. Should I voice my opinion to keep the other drummer on or let the praise leader lead?

I guess you should ask yourself if you're saved first. If you truely are #1 I'd pray about it but #2 I'd take it because this might be what God has in store for you and God may have moved the other drummer from that particular spot to give him something better for him also. But I'd definetly talk to Gd about it first.

I think that yo ucan voice your opinion to the praise leader but you have to be obedient to what God tells you directly or through the praise leader. If it is time for you to step up then you must. You being a reluctant leader doesn't help anybody. Sounds like you are aboyut to get trained for something new!

Actually the way our church is set up I’m already the #1 drummer this is due to the fact that we spend more time in deliverance and healing than we do in actual praise and worship with the choir. The choirs only sing two songs before the Pastor will come up (a very different service than most). I have no problem with being the number 1 seat but I just don't like to have enemies in the camp if you know what I mean. I don't want them to think I had anything to do with especially since the minister of music and I go way back to when he was a well-known touring artist.

Gotcha.

Pray on that and let the chips fall where they may. Unfortunatley in the church we let emotion play to boo heavy a role in our decisions/action/responses to on another. I hope that your situation keeps you in peace.
