Gospel songs that you feel have absolutely NO meaning...
« Reply #80 on: February 02, 2006, 01:49:23 PM »
How about this one... Send it on down send it on down Lord let the Holy Ghost Come on down.

1. The Holy Ghost is not an 'it' He's a person!!

2. Everytime I hear this song when I was little I would think of God being a contestant on the Price is Right. ya know 'come on down.' This just bugged me for some reason.

-Shan

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
That is too funny, like he would be jumping up and down screaming to the top of his lungs like he just won the car (and your really on contestants row right)

You know it's something when I think about how even though we talk about the old folks and their songs that are not "really" worded right, I still say that they had something that all our hebrew and greek and book knowledge ain't got... We may sport sometimes, but I really thank God for the Old saints teaching me, so that I ain't crazy like a lot of these folk I see here and on a WHOLE LOT of "christian tv"

You should have seen the way some people reacted at the convocation a few years ago (mainly men).  They were standing in the back of the Convention Center (about 20 of them) talking out loud as he sang "We Fall Down" (around 3am) saying that he needed to sit down because that song wasn't scriptural!  I just thought in essence the song said "God still forgives".

Also, this may be off on a bit of a tangent, but I was at a program recently and a choir sung "The Remix" and the lady leading it sung the son WORD FOR WORD, including the overseas and foreclusre parts!! To me that didn't make any sense!! (The song is fine, but shouldn't only Dianne be singing those parts??)

Loopy you a true prophet!  I was at church last night, and these kids were singing work it out -- the remix, I was thinking, "Now I know they got sense enough not to say ALL the adlibs esp. the ones that really don't apply", but I couldn't have been more wrong!  I was like, maybe people won't understand what he's sayin' and just think it's "cute" anyway.  But sure enough people were standing up clapping and gettin' into the song, and then when he got through all of those parts, everybody was like "Wha...??"

"We Fall Down" not scriptural?  They need to read Micah 7:8.

That sorta reminds me of this youth choir that came to our church singing that song by Dottie Peoples called "Brighter Day Ahead." Now the girl that was leading the song couldn't have been no more than 10 years old. You should have seen the look on my face when she was singing this part:

I've had my share of life's ups and downs,
(there's a brighter day ahead),
almost leveled to the ground,
(there's a brighter day ahead).

My money got low and the crowd got thin,
(there's a brighter day ahead),
King Jesus heard my cry and He stepped right in,
(there's a brighter day ahead)
8O  8O  8O  8O
They didn't have a musician so the director asked me if I would play for them...so i was obediant and did so, but I wanted to stop the song and find something else for them to sing.

I never understood this song:

Children there's a dark cloud rising, let's go home.
Children there's a dark cloud rising, let's go home.
Can't you see the lightening flashing, can't you hear the thunder rolling.
Children there's a dark cloud rising, let's go home.

I mean, why sing that song on a perfectly sunny day. Or even if a dark cloud is rising while you're in the middle of worship service, are you gonna pack up and go home???? Somebody please shed some light on this one :?

Well with that song since the lead is 10 should have read this...

My lunch money got low and the friends got thin...hey when we all were in school kids go through too.  Bullies, pickings, cliques, bullies taking lunch money, teachers that wont give you a break...going to the snack machine and 'accidently overspent' on the cheetos and m and m's instead of lunch food.  You wil be surprised what these kids go through...
In all things give thanks. :)

NOW THE LUNCH THING WAS FUNNY!  WOW!

Dark Cloud Rising?  Hmmmmm.....they probably visited one of our church services and sang that on the way out the door.  Lord knows I want to sometimes....I'll have to add that one to my repertoire.

I know I may stir up some trouble with this, but I don't like playing the song "We Fall Down, But We Get Up."

I'm alright with the song until it gets to the lyric "A saint is just a sinner who fell down and got up."

That is unscriptural. Sinners can't get up, and a saint is not just a sinner who fell down and got up, a saint is someone who has been redeemed from slavery to sin.

Just my 2 cents . . .

Be Blessed, everyone!

WOW! In all the months of knowing you online, you just confused me.  Is that not saying the same thing.  Someone who found forgiveness and started walking in it?

I'm sleepy today so maybe I'll have to read this again after my afternoon nap!

Saints don't "Practice" sin, Sinners do...

If I say things like "for a sint is just a sinner who fell down, and got up", then it weakens the fact that I got to live right in front of the people...

What about Shirley Caesar featuring Tonex, "I know the truth." I don't understand the song, I know it's talking about the devil, but can somebody clarify that song to me. Please???

I think the moral of the song is that they know who they are in the Lord. So whatever the devil comes to them with is a lie.
