Whats do you think is a good practice organ?
« on: December 27, 2009, 04:01:50 PM »
Hello all,

I'm thinking about investing in a organ for my home.  Since we have a lot of experts here I'd figured I'd ask yall.  What would be a good organ for my home.  I wish i had room in my home for a b3, s what the next best thing for me to practice on ?

Any of the clone wheel organs. Roland VK8, Hammond XK1/3, korg cx3. as for pedals there is the roland PK-5 pedal board. You can also look into the Hammond M3, L100 or M100, but I dont like em because you cant play left hand bass on em and they are missing a couple of drawbars

with any of those keyboards and those pedals you'll spend more money than buying an actual organ. If you play an organ at church you need to practice on an organ at home. I had a Nord, Hammond Xb and Xk and also an M3 but after it's all said and done neither of them made the perfect practice tool. A Hammond C2 or A100/101/102 can be found all day for $1500ish.

Ant, what kind of space are you working with? There's not enough room for a B3 but you want an organ. The overall dimensions of a spinet organ v/s a console organ isn't that far off.

Doc my suggestion would be to go on craigslist and get a hammond commodore! They have a leslie already installed in the console. They can go from 400-1500. These are a great buy because they have a set of drawbars so that you can work on using them, a leslie inside of it so you can work on your sound and a full pedal board. I live in an 2nd floor apartment and my neighbors are not mad at me but i play everynight!!! make sure you have at least 5x10 ft available to put it somewhere...don't be discouraged they are out there!!!
